📜 About CMS (Bonn Convention)
The Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals, also known as the Bonn Convention, is an international environmental treaty operating under the United Nations Environment Programme.
It was signed in Bonn, Germany, on 23 June 1979 and provides a global platform for the conservation and sustainable use of migratory animals and their habitats.
It is the only global UN-based intergovernmental framework dedicated exclusively to the conservation and management of terrestrial, aquatic, and avian migratory species across their entire range.
🎯 Key Objectives
The Convention recognizes the importance of conserving migratory species, especially those with an unfavourable conservation status. It encourages international cooperation among countries that share these species.
Activities under CMS range from legally binding treaties (called Agreements) to non-binding instruments like Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs).
🏛️ Conference of Parties (COP)
The Conference of Parties (COP) is the main decision-making body of the Convention. It reviews implementation, adopts resolutions, and updates conservation priorities, such as adding new species to protection lists.
📚 Appendices of CMS
📌 Appendix I
This includes endangered migratory species. Strict protection measures are applied, including prohibitions on hunting or capturing these species.
📌 Appendix II
This includes species with an unfavourable conservation status. It encourages countries to cooperate and develop agreements for their conservation and management.
🌱 Significance
The addition of new species to CMS lists highlights the growing global concern for biodiversity conservation. It promotes coordinated international action to protect migratory species that cross national boundaries.
Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals के 15वें Conference of Parties (COP15) में लगभग 40 नई प्रजातियों को संरक्षित सूची में शामिल किया गया है।
Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals,
📌 एपेंडिक्स I
