लोकटक झील पूर्वोत्तर भारत की सबसे बड़ी मीठे पानी की झील है। यह मणिपुर में स्थित है और अपनी अनोखी तैरती हुई वनस्पतियों एवं द्वीपों के लिए प्रसिद्ध है।
लोकटक झील को मणिपुर की “जीवन रेखा” कहा जाता है क्योंकि यह राज्य के लोगों को पानी, मछली और आजीविका प्रदान करती है। यह झील लगभग 287 वर्ग किलोमीटर क्षेत्र में फैली हुई है।
इस झील की सबसे विशेष बात “फुमदी” (Phumdi) है। फुमदी मिट्टी, वनस्पति और जैविक पदार्थों से बने तैरते हुए द्वीप होते हैं। ये झील की सतह पर तैरते रहते हैं।
लोकटक झील में स्थित केइबुल लामजाओ राष्ट्रीय उद्यान विश्व का एकमात्र तैरता हुआ राष्ट्रीय उद्यान है। यह उद्यान अत्यंत दुर्लभ संगाई हिरण (Brow-antlered Deer) का प्राकृतिक आवास है। संगाई को मणिपुर का राज्य पशु भी माना जाता है।
झील का आर्थिक और पर्यावरणीय महत्व बहुत अधिक है। यहाँ मछली पालन बड़े पैमाने पर किया जाता है। इसके अलावा यह जलविद्युत उत्पादन और सिंचाई में भी सहायक है।
लोकटक झील पर्यटन की दृष्टि से भी प्रसिद्ध है। इसकी प्राकृतिक सुंदरता, तैरते द्वीप और जैव विविधता पर्यटकों को आकर्षित करती है।
हालाँकि प्रदूषण, अत्यधिक मानवीय गतिविधियों और जल स्तर में बदलाव के कारण झील का पारिस्थितिकी तंत्र प्रभावित हो रहा है। इसके संरक्षण के लिए कई सरकारी परियोजनाएँ चलाई जा रही हैं।

Loktak Lake is the largest freshwater lake in Northeast India. It is located in Manipur and is famous for its unique floating vegetation and islands.
Loktak Lake is often called the “Lifeline of Manipur” because it provides water, fish, and livelihood to many people in the state. The lake spreads over an area of about 287 square kilometers.
The most unique feature of the lake is the presence of “Phumdis.” These are floating masses of vegetation, soil, and organic matter that drift on the surface of the lake.
Located within the lake is the Keibul Lamjao National Park, which is the world’s only floating national park. It is the natural habitat of the rare Sangai Deer, also known as the Brow-antlered Deer and the state animal of Manipur.
The lake has great economic and ecological importance. Fishing is widely practiced here, and the lake also supports hydroelectric power generation and irrigation.
Loktak Lake is also a major tourist attraction because of its scenic beauty, floating islands, and biodiversity.
However, pollution, excessive human activities, and changes in water levels are affecting its ecosystem. Several conservation programs have been launched to protect the lake and its biodiversity.
