🐅 Navegaon–Nagzira Tiger Reserve to Get Control of Buffer Area
The Navegaon Nagzira Tiger Reserve (NNTR) in Maharashtra will take control of its notified buffer area from April 1. This step is important for strengthening conservation and improving habitat management around the reserve.
📍 Location & Importance
The reserve is located in the heart of the Central Indian Tiger Landscape, which supports nearly one-sixth of India’s tiger population.
It was declared a tiger reserve in 2013 and is the fifth tiger reserve in Maharashtra.
🌳 Composition of the Reserve
NNTR is made up of several protected areas, including:
- Navegaon National Park
- Navegaon Wildlife Sanctuary
- Nagzira Wildlife Sanctuary
- New Nagzira Wildlife Sanctuary
- Koka Wildlife Sanctuary
It also has ecological linkages with major tiger reserves like Kanha Tiger Reserve, Pench Tiger Reserve, and Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve, forming an important wildlife corridor.
⛰️ Topography
The terrain is undulating, with the highest point being Zenda Pahad, located at around 702 metres above mean sea level.
🌿 Vegetation & Flora
The reserve falls under the Southern Tropical Dry Deciduous forest type.
It hosts around 364 plant species. Major trees include:
- Terminalia tomentosa
- Lagerstroemia parviflora
- Anogeissus latifolia
- Pterocarpus marsupium
- Diospyros melanoxylon
🐾 Fauna
The reserve supports rich wildlife diversity, including:
- Tiger and Leopard (Panther)
- Sloth Bear, Wolf, Jackal, Wild Dog
- Civets (Small Indian & Palm Civet)
- Gaur, Sambar, Chital
- Four-horned Antelope, Mouse Deer, Pangolin
- Common Giant Flying Squirrel

Taking control of the buffer zone will:
- Improve protection of wildlife habitats
- Reduce human-wildlife conflict
- Strengthen conservation management
- Ensure better ecological connectivity

Navegaon Nagzira Tiger Reserve, Maharashtra में स्थित, 1 अप्रैल से अपने बफर क्षेत्र का नियंत्रण संभालेगा। यह कदम वन्यजीव संरक्षण को और मजबूत करेगा।
📍 स्थान और महत्व
यह रिजर्व सेंट्रल इंडियन टाइगर लैंडस्केप में स्थित है, जहाँ देश के लगभग 1/6 बाघ पाए जाते हैं।
इसे 2013 में टाइगर रिजर्व घोषित किया गया था और यह महाराष्ट्र का पाँचवाँ टाइगर रिजर्व है।

इसमें शामिल क्षेत्र हैं:
- नवगाँव नेशनल पार्क
- नवगाँव वाइल्डलाइफ सेंचुरी
- नागजीरा वाइल्डलाइफ सेंचुरी
- न्यू नागजीरा वाइल्डलाइफ सेंचुरी
- कोका वाइल्डलाइफ सेंचुरी
यह Kanha Tiger Reserve, Pench Tiger Reserve और Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve से जुड़ा हुआ है।
⛰️ स्थलाकृति
यह क्षेत्र ऊँचा-नीचा (undulating) है और इसका सबसे ऊँचा स्थान ‘जेंडा पहाड़’ है, जिसकी ऊँचाई लगभग 702 मीटर है।
🌿 वनस्पति
यहाँ दक्षिणी उष्णकटिबंधीय शुष्क पर्णपाती वन पाए जाते हैं।
यहाँ लगभग 364 पौधों की प्रजातियाँ पाई जाती हैं।
🐾 जीव-जंतु
यहाँ पाए जाने वाले प्रमुख जीव हैं:
- बाघ, तेंदुआ
- भालू, भेड़िया, सियार, जंगली कुत्ता
- सिवेट, उड़ने वाली गिलहरी
- गौर, सांभर, चीतल
- पेंगोलिन, माउस डियर
🌱 महत्व
बफर क्षेत्र का नियंत्रण मिलने से:
- वन्यजीव संरक्षण बेहतर होगा
- मानव-वन्यजीव संघर्ष कम होगा
- पारिस्थितिक संतुलन मजबूत होगा
- वन्यजीव गलियारे (corridors) सुरक्षित रहेंगे
