Recently, a new butterfly species named Euthalia zubeengargi has been recorded in the state of Arunachal Pradesh, adding to the rich biodiversity of India’s northeastern region.
This butterfly species was discovered in the semi-evergreen forests of Arunachal Pradesh, typically found at elevations ranging between 600 to 750 metres. It belongs to the genus Euthalia, a group of butterflies widely distributed across South and Southeast Asia.

Members of the Euthalia genus are usually found in dense forest habitats and are known for their earthy brown wings decorated with pale spots. The newly discovered Euthalia zubeengargi prefers cool, shaded interiors of forests.
It is commonly seen resting on low vegetation, where it feeds on tree sap. Occasionally, it also gathers essential minerals from damp surfaces near streams. This butterfly is most active from late morning to early afternoon, during which it makes short and slow flights between nearby plants.
