India–Malaysia to Promote Bilateral Trade in Local Currencies
India and Malaysia agreed to promote bilateral trade settlement in their local currencies to reduce dependence on dominant global reserve currencies. The move aims to lower vulnerability to exchange rate volatility, external monetary tightening, and global financial shocks.
While Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) help boost trade through tariff reduction and market access, they do not enable settlement in local currencies. Such arrangements require central bank mechanisms like currency swap agreements and Special Rupee Vostro Accounts.
The Reserve Bank of India already permits international trade invoicing in Indian Rupees through the Special Rupee Vostro Account framework, encouraging partners to transact directly in INR.

भारत और मलेशिया ने द्विपक्षीय व्यापार को अपनी-अपनी स्थानीय मुद्राओं में करने पर सहमति जताई है, ताकि वैश्विक प्रमुख आरक्षित मुद्राओं पर निर्भरता कम की जा सके। इसका उद्देश्य विनिमय दर में उतार-चढ़ाव, बाहरी मौद्रिक सख्ती और वैश्विक आर्थिक झटकों से जोखिम कम करना है।
मुक्त व्यापार समझौते (FTA) शुल्क में कमी और बाज़ार तक पहुंच तो बढ़ाते हैं, लेकिन स्थानीय मुद्रा में व्यापार निपटान की सुविधा नहीं देते। इसके लिए केंद्रीय बैंकों के बीच करेंसी स्वैप और Special Rupee Vostro Account जैसी व्यवस्थाएँ आवश्यक होती हैं।
भारतीय रिज़र्व बैंक पहले ही Special Rupee Vostro Account ढांचे के माध्यम से अंतरराष्ट्रीय व्यापार का बिलिंग भारतीय रुपये में करने की अनुमति देता है।

India defeated Bangladesh 4–0 in the SAFF U-19 Women’s Championship final held at Pokhara Rangasala Stadium in Nepal. The victory marked a dominant performance by the Indian team.

India Ranks Second Globally in LEED-Certified Space
India ranked second globally, after Mainland China, in terms of LEED-certified real estate space outside the United States, according to data from the US Green Building Council.
India has around 16 million square metres of certified green building space, largely driven by increased adoption of LEED Operations and Maintenance (O&M) standards. This trend reflects a shift toward improving energy efficiency in existing buildings across commercial, industrial, retail, and educational sectors.

भारत में लगभग 16 मिलियन वर्ग मीटर हरित भवन क्षेत्र प्रमाणित है, जिसमें LEED Operations and Maintenance मानकों को तेजी से अपनाया गया है। यह प्रवृत्ति वाणिज्यिक, औद्योगिक, खुदरा और शैक्षणिक भवनों में ऊर्जा दक्षता बढ़ाने की दिशा में बदलाव को दर्शाती है।
PLI 1.2 Scheme to Boost Specialty Steel Sector
The Government launched PLI Scheme 1.2 for Specialty Steel to strengthen domestic manufacturing and reduce import dependence. The initiative focuses on producing high-grade steel used in automobiles, railways, defence, and aerospace industries.
A total of 85 MoUs were signed with 55 companies, committing investments worth ₹11,887 crore to create an additional 8.7 million tonnes of specialty steel capacity by FY2031. The scheme supports Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat goals.

सरकार ने Specialty Steel के लिए PLI Scheme 1.2 शुरू की है, जिसका उद्देश्य घरेलू विनिर्माण को मजबूत करना और आयात पर निर्भरता कम करना है। यह योजना ऑटोमोबाइल, रेलवे, रक्षा और एयरोस्पेस में उपयोग होने वाले उच्च गुणवत्ता वाले इस्पात के उत्पादन पर केंद्रित है।
55 कंपनियों के साथ 85 समझौता ज्ञापन (MoUs) पर हस्ताक्षर किए गए, जिनके तहत ₹11,887 करोड़ का निवेश कर FY2031 तक 8.7 मिलियन टन अतिरिक्त क्षमता विकसित की जाएगी। यह योजना Make in India और आत्मनिर्भर भारत को समर्थन देती है।
World Pulses Day 2026 Observed
World Pulses Day is celebrated every year on February 10 to highlight the nutritional value and environmental benefits of pulses such as lentils, chickpeas, beans, and peas.
The 2026 theme is “Pulses of the World: From Modesty to Excellence.” Established by the United Nations in 2018, the day promotes sustainable agriculture, food security, and climate-resilient farming systems.

India Named ‘Country of the Year’ at BIOFACH 2026
India was designated as the Country of the Year at BIOFACH 2026 in Nuremberg, Germany, one of the world’s leading trade fairs for organic food. The recognition highlights India’s growing leadership in organic agriculture and sustainable farming.
APEDA led India’s participation with a large pavilion showcasing organic rice, spices, oilseeds, herbs, and value-added products. More than 20 States and Union Territories took part, demonstrating India’s agricultural diversity and export potential in the global organic market.

Railway Capacity & Safety Projects Approved Nationwide
Indian Railways approved several multi-region infrastructure projects to improve capacity, safety, and operational efficiency across Northern, Southern, and South-Eastern zones.
Key works include new bypass lines, track doubling, and Electronic Interlocking at 34 stations. These measures will reduce congestion, improve punctuality, increase freight movement, and support industrial and logistics corridors.

New Dragonfly Species Discovered in Kerala
Researchers discovered a new dragonfly species named Lyriothemis keralensis in Kerala near Kothamangalam. The species inhabits shaded plantation canals and seasonal pools, appearing mainly during the Southwest monsoon.
The discovery highlights the rich biodiversity of the Western Ghats and raises conservation concerns, as many habitats lie outside protected areas.

India–UK Social Security Agreement Signed
India signed a Social Security Agreement with the United Kingdom to prevent double social security contributions for professionals working temporarily in each other’s countries (up to 36 months).
The pact enhances workforce mobility, reduces financial burden on employees and employers, and supports smoother implementation of the India–UK Comprehensive Economic Trade Agreement.
भारत–यूके सामाजिक सुरक्षा समझौता
भारत और यूनाइटेड किंगडम ने सामाजिक सुरक्षा समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किए, जिससे दोनों देशों में अस्थायी रूप से कार्यरत पेशेवरों को दोहरी सामाजिक सुरक्षा अंशदान से राहत मिलेगी (36 महीने तक)।

UIDAI Completes 1 Crore Biometric Updates for Schoolchildren
The Unique Identification Authority of India completed over 1 crore Mandatory Biometric Updates (MBUs) for schoolchildren across 83,000 schools within five months.
These updates ensure continued Aadhaar authentication for scholarships, exams, and government services. UIDAI waived update charges for children aged 7–15 to encourage participation.
