1. Bimal N. Patel Elected Judge of ITLOS

Bimal N. Patel was elected as a Judge of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) for the 2026–2035 term. He secured one of the seats allocated to the Asian region during the Meeting of States Parties to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). Headquartered in Hamburg, Germany, ITLOS settles international disputes related to maritime boundaries, navigation, marine resources, and ocean law. Patel will begin his nine-year term on 1 October 2026.

2. India's Gold Imports Fall Sharply in May 2026

India's gold imports declined by 39% in May 2026 after the government increased the import duty on gold from 6% to 15%. The policy was introduced to reduce dependence on imported gold and conserve foreign exchange reserves. The higher duty also resulted in increased domestic gold prices and influenced investment patterns, including lower participation in Gold Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs).

3. UAE Introduces Minimum Age for Social Media

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) became the first Arab nation to officially fix 15 years as the minimum age for using social media platforms. The new regulation requires technology companies to implement advanced AI-based age verification systems and parental control features. The initiative is aimed at protecting children from online risks while promoting safer and more responsible digital engagement.

4. Meghalaya Inaugurates Northeast's Largest Organic Spice Processing Plant

Meghalaya inaugurated the Northeast's largest organic spice processing plant at Bhoirymbong in Ri Bhoi district. With an annual processing capacity of more than 10,000 metric tonnes, the facility is expected to benefit around 5,500 organic farmers by improving value addition, market access, and rural incomes. The project supports sustainable agriculture and strengthens the region's organic farming ecosystem.

5. Tata Motors Signs MoU to Replace Old Commercial Vehicles

Tata Motors signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) to encourage the replacement of old trucks and buses in the Delhi-NCR region. The initiative offers discounts on new commercial vehicles along with government incentives such as tax concessions, fuel vouchers, registration fee waivers, and interest subsidies. The programme aims to reduce vehicular pollution and modernise India's commercial transport sector.

6. Uzbekistan Joins the New Development Bank

Uzbekistan became the 10th member of the New Development Bank (NDB) and the first Central Asian country to join the institution. Established by the BRICS nations, the NDB finances infrastructure and sustainable development projects across emerging economies. Uzbekistan's membership is expected to accelerate investments in transport, energy, water management, and public infrastructure.

7. Odisha to Host India's First Coal-to-Ammonium Nitrate Project

India's first commercial-scale coal-to-ammonium nitrate project will be established at Lakhanpur in Jharsuguda district, Odisha. The project is being developed by Bharat Coal Gasification and Chemicals Limited, a joint venture between BHEL and Coal India Limited. Using indigenous coal gasification technology, the project aims to reduce import dependence, strengthen domestic chemical production, and generate large-scale employment.

8. World Sickle Cell Day Observed on 19 June

World Sickle Cell Day is observed every year on 19 June to spread awareness about Sickle Cell Disease, an inherited blood disorder. The 2026 theme, "Closing the Survival Gap: Equity in Sickle Cell Disease," highlights the need for equal access to diagnosis, treatment, genetic counselling, and quality healthcare. The disease significantly affects tribal communities in several parts of India.

9. Indian Coast Guard Inducts First Indigenous Hovercraft

The Indian Coast Guard inducted its first indigenous Air Cushion Vehicle (ACV), commonly known as a hovercraft, in Goa. Built by Chowgule & Company Pvt. Ltd. under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, the hovercraft can operate efficiently over water, marshes, mudflats, and land. The induction strengthens India's indigenous defence manufacturing capabilities and enhances coastal surveillance and search-and-rescue operations.

10. Bharat Buildcon 2026 Opens in New Delhi

Bharat Buildcon 2026 was inaugurated at the Yashobhoomi Convention Centre, New Delhi, under the theme "One Nation, One Expo." The event brought together participants from more than 90 countries and over 100 Indian cities to showcase innovations in construction materials, infrastructure technology, smart buildings, and sustainable development. The exhibition serves as an important platform for international collaboration in the construction sector.

11. IITM Pune and ARIES Establish Long-Term Climate Observation Station

IITM Pune signed an agreement with ARIES Nainital to establish a long-term Bharat Climate Observation Network (BCON) monitoring station at Devasthal in the Himalayan region. Developed under Mission Mausam, the station will continuously monitor atmospheric conditions, greenhouse gases, soil moisture, and meteorological parameters, providing valuable data for climate research and weather prediction.

12. Indian Army Participates in Exercise KHAAN QUEST 2026

The Indian Army is participating in Exercise KHAAN QUEST 2026, hosted by Mongolia at the Five Hills Training Area near Ulaanbaatar. The multinational military exercise focuses on improving peacekeeping capabilities, tactical coordination, interoperability, and humanitarian operations. 1. बिमल एन. पटेल ITLOS के न्यायाधीश निर्वाचित

बिमल एन. पटेल को 2026–2035 कार्यकाल के लिए International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) का न्यायाधीश चुना गया। उनका चुनाव UNCLOS के सदस्य देशों की 36वीं बैठक में हुआ, जहाँ उन्होंने एशियाई क्षेत्र के लिए निर्धारित सीटों में से एक पर जीत हासिल की। जर्मनी के हैम्बर्ग स्थित ITLOS समुद्री सीमाओं, नौवहन अधिकारों, समुद्री संसाधनों तथा अंतरराष्ट्रीय समुद्री कानून से जुड़े विवादों का निपटारा करता है। उनका कार्यकाल 1 अक्टूबर 2026 से प्रारंभ होगा।

2. मई 2026 में भारत का सोना आयात 39% घटा

सरकार द्वारा सोने पर आयात शुल्क 6% से बढ़ाकर 15% किए जाने के बाद मई 2026 में भारत का सोना आयात 39% घटकर 3.4 अरब डॉलर रह गया। इस कदम का उद्देश्य विदेशी मुद्रा की बचत करना तथा आयातित सोने पर निर्भरता कम करना था। शुल्क वृद्धि के कारण घरेलू बाजार में सोने की कीमतों में वृद्धि हुई और गोल्ड ETF में निवेश भी प्रभावित हुआ।

3. UAE ने सोशल मीडिया उपयोग के लिए न्यूनतम आयु 15 वर्ष निर्धारित की

संयुक्त अरब अमीरात (UAE) सोशल मीडिया उपयोग के लिए 15 वर्ष की न्यूनतम आयु निर्धारित करने वाला पहला अरब देश बन गया। नए नियमों के अनुसार 15 वर्ष से कम आयु के बच्चों को व्यक्तिगत सोशल मीडिया अकाउंट बनाने की अनुमति नहीं होगी। प्लेटफॉर्मों को AI आधारित आयु सत्यापन, अभिभावक नियंत्रण तथा सुरक्षित डिजिटल वातावरण सुनिश्चित करना होगा।

4. मेघालय में पूर्वोत्तर का सबसे बड़ा ऑर्गेनिक मसाला प्रसंस्करण संयंत्र शुरू

मेघालय के भोइरिमबोंग (Ri Bhoi) में पूर्वोत्तर भारत का सबसे बड़ा ऑर्गेनिक मसाला प्रसंस्करण संयंत्र शुरू किया गया। इसकी वार्षिक प्रसंस्करण क्षमता 10,346 मीट्रिक टन है और इससे लगभग 5,500 जैविक किसानों को लाभ मिलेगा। यह परियोजना किसानों की आय बढ़ाने, मूल्य संवर्धन और जैविक कृषि को प्रोत्साहित करेगी।

5. पुराने ट्रकों और बसों के प्रतिस्थापन हेतु टाटा मोटर्स का MoU

टाटा मोटर्स ने सड़क परिवहन एवं राजमार्ग मंत्रालय (MoRTH) के साथ दिल्ली-एनसीआर में पुराने ट्रकों और बसों के स्थान पर नए व स्वच्छ वाहनों को बढ़ावा देने के लिए समझौता किया। इस योजना के तहत पात्र खरीदारों को विशेष छूट के साथ कर रियायतें, ब्याज सब्सिडी, ईंधन वाउचर और पंजीकरण शुल्क में छूट मिलेगी। इसका उद्देश्य प्रदूषण कम करना और व्यावसायिक परिवहन को आधुनिक बनाना है।

6. उज्बेकिस्तान बना न्यू डेवलपमेंट बैंक का सदस्य

उज्बेकिस्तान New Development Bank (NDB) का 10वाँ सदस्य तथा मध्य एशिया का पहला सदस्य बन गया। BRICS देशों द्वारा स्थापित यह बैंक उभरती अर्थव्यवस्थाओं में आधारभूत संरचना एवं सतत विकास परियोजनाओं को वित्तीय सहायता प्रदान करता है। इससे उज्बेकिस्तान में ऊर्जा, परिवहन, जल प्रबंधन और सामाजिक अवसंरचना में निवेश को बढ़ावा मिलेगा।

7. ओडिशा में बनेगा भारत का पहला कोयला-से-अमोनियम नाइट्रेट संयंत्र

भारत का पहला व्यावसायिक कोयला-से-अमोनियम नाइट्रेट परियोजना ओडिशा के झारसुगुड़ा जिले के लखनपुर में स्थापित होगी। इसे भारत कोल गैसीफिकेशन एंड केमिकल्स लिमिटेड (BHEL और Coal India Limited का संयुक्त उपक्रम) विकसित करेगा। ₹25,000 करोड़ से अधिक लागत वाली यह परियोजना आयात पर निर्भरता कम करेगी और घरेलू रासायनिक उद्योग को मजबूत बनाएगी।

8. 19 जून को मनाया गया विश्व सिकल सेल दिवस

विश्व सिकल सेल दिवस प्रत्येक वर्ष 19 जून को मनाया जाता है। इसका उद्देश्य सिकल सेल रोग के प्रति जागरूकता बढ़ाना, शीघ्र पहचान, उपचार, आनुवंशिक परामर्श और बेहतर स्वास्थ्य सेवाओं को बढ़ावा देना है। 2026 की थीम थी "Closing the Survival Gap: Equity in Sickle Cell Disease"। भारत में यह बीमारी विशेष रूप से अनुसूचित जनजातियों में अधिक पाई जाती है।

9. भारतीय तटरक्षक बल में शामिल हुआ पहला स्वदेशी होवरक्राफ्ट

भारतीय तटरक्षक बल ने गोवा में अपना पहला स्वदेशी Air Cushion Vehicle (Hovercraft) शामिल किया। इसे Chowgule & Company Pvt. भारत बिल्डकॉन 2026 का उद्घाटन नई दिल्ली के यशोभूमि कन्वेंशन सेंटर में "One Nation, One Expo" थीम के साथ किया गया। इस चार दिवसीय प्रदर्शनी में 90 से अधिक देशों और 100 से अधिक भारतीय शहरों की भागीदारी रही। इसमें निर्माण सामग्री, स्मार्ट इंफ्रास्ट्रक्चर, हरित भवन, सीमेंट, स्टील और आधुनिक तकनीकों का प्रदर्शन किया गया।

11. IITM पुणे और ARIES ने जलवायु निगरानी केंद्र स्थापित करने हेतु समझौता किया

IITM पुणे और ARIES नैनीताल ने हिमालयी क्षेत्र के देवस्थल में भारत क्लाइमेट ऑब्जर्वेशन नेटवर्क (BCON) स्टेशन स्थापित करने के लिए दीर्घकालिक समझौता किया। Mission Mausam के अंतर्गत स्थापित यह केंद्र 50 वर्षों से अधिक समय तक ग्रीनहाउस गैसों, मौसम, मृदा नमी तथा वायुमंडलीय परिस्थितियों की निगरानी करेगा।

12. मंगोलिया में आयोजित KHAAN QUEST 2026 में भारतीय सेना की भागीदारी

भारतीय सेना KHAAN QUEST 2026 बहुराष्ट्रीय सैन्य अभ्यास में भाग ले रही है, जिसकी मेजबानी मंगोलिया कर रहा है। यह अभ्यास उलानबटार के फाइव हिल्स ट्रेनिंग एरिया में आयोजित हो रहा है। इसका उद्देश्य संयुक्त राष्ट्र शांति अभियानों, सामरिक समन्वय, मानवीय सहायता तथा विभिन्न देशों की सेनाओं के बीच आपसी तालमेल को मजबूत करना है।
