A recent multi-institutional study conducted on 830 adult patients with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) across eight academic centres found that approximately one in ten adults diagnosed with ALL had a mutation in the TP53 gene.

Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL), also known as acute lymphocytic leukaemia, is a type of blood cancer that affects white blood cells and the bone marrow. It is a rapidly progressing cancer and is considered the most common type of cancer in children.

The disease develops when bone marrow cells undergo genetic changes or mutations in their DNA, leading to uncontrolled production of abnormal white blood cells.

Common symptoms of ALL include bleeding from the gums, bone pain, fever, frequent infections, and frequent or severe nosebleeds.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), ALL is classified into two main types. The first is B-cell lymphoblastic leukemia/lymphoma, which begins in immature cells that develop into B lymphocytes and is the most common subtype. The second is T-cell lymphoblastic leukemia, which originates in immature cells that develop into T lymphocytes and is comparatively less common.

Treatment of ALL may include chemotherapy and targeted therapies that specifically destroy cancer cells. Early diagnosis and proper treatment significantly improve survival rates.

Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL),
