EIL sets world record with longest HDD pipeline crossing — January 19, 2026
Engineers India Ltd set a world record by completing the longest HDD crossing for a 26-inch pipeline under the Brahmaputra River. The 4,058-metre crossing surpassed EIL’s earlier record achieved during the Ganga crossing under the PNCPL project. This is part of the 1,635-km Paradip–Numaligarh crude oil pipeline, strengthening India’s energy security and eastern infrastructure.
इंजीनियर्स इंडिया लिमिटेड (EIL) ने ब्रह्मपुत्र नदी के नीचे 26-इंच पाइपलाइन का सबसे लंबा HDD क्रॉसिंग पूरा कर विश्व रिकॉर्ड बनाया। 4,058 मीटर की यह क्रॉसिंग, PNCPL परियोजना के तहत गंगा क्रॉसिंग के दौरान बनाए गए EIL के पुराने रिकॉर्ड से भी बड़ी है। यह 1,635 किमी लंबी पारादीप–नुमालीगढ़ कच्चा तेल पाइपलाइन का हिस्सा है, जिससे ऊर्जा सुरक्षा और पूर्वी भारत का इंफ्रास्ट्रक्चर मजबूत होगा।
Odisha launches ‘Aame Padhiba Aama Bhasare’ scheme — January 19, 2026
Odisha launched the five-year ‘Aame Padhiba Aama Bhasare’ scheme to provide early education in mother tongues for children aged 3–6. In the first phase, tribal languages across six districts will be covered using trained anganwadi workers and audio-visual learning tools. The state also started a 100-day campaign against child marriage and a pilot to prevent teenage pregnancy and support young mothers.
ओडिशा ने 3–6 वर्ष के बच्चों के लिए मातृभाषा में प्रारंभिक शिक्षा देने हेतु 5 वर्षीय ‘आमे पढ़िबा आमा भासारे’ योजना शुरू की। पहले चरण में 6 जिलों की जनजातीय भाषाओं को प्रशिक्षित आंगनवाड़ी कार्यकर्ताओं और ऑडियो-विजुअल टूल्स के माध्यम से कवर किया जाएगा। साथ ही राज्य ने बाल विवाह के खिलाफ 100-दिवसीय अभियान और किशोरावस्था गर्भधारण रोकने व युवा माताओं के समर्थन हेतु एक पायलट भी शुरू किया।

The certification highlights people-centric HR practices across talent development, learning, diversity and employee wellbeing. NTPC is a Maharatna central PSU under the Ministry of Power; CMD is Gurdeep Singh; founded on 7 November 1975.

SC: Meritorious reserved candidates get general seats — January 19, 2026
The Supreme Court held that reserved category candidates who score above the general cutoff must be counted against unreserved seats. Setting aside a 2020 Kerala High Court order, the Court said the unreserved category is an open merit pool, not a quota. This “merit-induced shift” supports equality under Articles 14 and 16 in public employment.
सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने कहा कि आरक्षित श्रेणी के वे उम्मीदवार जो सामान्य कटऑफ से अधिक अंक लाते हैं, उन्हें अनारक्षित (General/UR) सीटों के अंतर्गत समायोजित किया जाएगा। कोर्ट ने 2020 के केरल हाईकोर्ट के आदेश को अलग करते हुए कहा कि अनारक्षित श्रेणी एक खुला मेरिट-पूल है, कोई कोटा नहीं। यह “merit-induced shift” अनुच्छेद 14 और 16 के तहत समानता को मजबूत करता है।
Vice-President inaugurates Jagran Forum, stresses nation-building — January 19, 2026
Vice-President C P Radhakrishnan inaugurated the Jagran Forum in Dehradun, marking 25 years of Uttarakhand’s formation. He highlighted the state’s democratic aspirations, federal strength, and its civilisational, spiritual and ecological importance. The forum discussed green growth, solar push, Gross Environmental Product and Uttarakhand’s role in national security.
उपराष्ट्रपति सी. पी. राधाकृष्णन ने देहरादून में ‘जागरण फोरम’ का उद्घाटन किया, जो उत्तराखंड राज्य गठन के 25 वर्ष पूरे होने पर आयोजित था। उन्होंने राज्य की लोकतांत्रिक आकांक्षाओं, संघीय व्यवस्था की मजबूती और उत्तराखंड के सभ्यतागत, आध्यात्मिक व पर्यावरणीय महत्व पर जोर दिया। फोरम में ग्रीन ग्रोथ, सौर ऊर्जा, Gross Environmental Product और राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा में उत्तराखंड की भूमिका जैसे विषयों पर चर्चा हुई।
PM flags off green transport, new rail lines and trains in West Bengal — January 19, 2026
The Prime Minister launched an advanced electric catamaran in Kolkata built by Cochin Shipyard for zero-emission river transport. He inaugurated the Jayrambati–Barogopinathpur–Maynapur rail line to improve Bankura’s connectivity. Three Amrit Bharat Express trains were also flagged off linking Kolkata with Anand Vihar, Banaras and Tambaram.

The five-day UCI 2.2 event (Jan 19–23) covers 437 km across the Deccan Plateau and Sahyadris with 171 riders from 35 countries. His association aims to boost visibility and inspire youth.

Steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal’s father Mohan Lal Mittal dies — January 19, 2026
Mohan Lal Mittal, father of global steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal, passed away. Born in 1920s Karachi, he migrated to India, began with scrap iron trade and later ran a steel rolling mill in Kolkata. Sending Lakshmi Mittal abroad in the 1960s paved the way for building a major steel empire.
वैश्विक स्टील उद्योगपति लक्ष्मी मित्तल के पिता मोहन लाल मित्तल का निधन हो गया। उनका जन्म 1920 के दशक में कराची में हुआ था, वे भारत आए और स्क्रैप आयरन व्यापार से शुरुआत कर बाद में कोलकाता में स्टील रोलिंग मिल चलाने लगे। 1960 के दशक में लक्ष्मी मित्तल को विदेश भेजने का निर्णय आगे चलकर बड़े स्टील साम्राज्य की नींव बना।
Defence Minister inaugurates Nagpur ammo unit; flags off Pinaka exports — January 19, 2026
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated a fully automated 30 mm ammunition facility at Solar Defence & Aerospace in Nagpur. He said the government targets over 50% private sector participation to make India self-reliant and a defence manufacturing hub. He also flagged off Pinaka rocket exports to Armenia, highlighting India’s shift towards defence exports.
रक्षा मंत्री राजनाथ सिंह ने नागपुर में Solar Defence & Aerospace की पूर्ण स्वचालित 30 मिमी गोला-बारूद सुविधा का उद्घाटन किया। उन्होंने कहा कि भारत को आत्मनिर्भर और वैश्विक रक्षा निर्माण केंद्र बनाने के लिए निजी क्षेत्र की भागीदारी 50% से अधिक करने का लक्ष्य है। उन्होंने पिनाका रॉकेट के आर्मेनिया निर्यात को भी रवाना किया, जो भारत के रक्षा निर्यातक बनने की दिशा को दर्शाता है।
Karnataka amends land law to modernise Coorg records — January 19, 2026
Karnataka amended its land revenue law to modernise Coorg’s Jamma Bane land record system in Kodagu. Under Jamma tenure, records carried names of original grantees, causing issues in sale, transfer and bank loans for current owners. The 2025 amendment updates records to reflect present ownership while safeguarding Kodava land rights.
कर्नाटक ने कोडागु (कूर्ग) की विशेष ‘जम्मा बने’ भूमि रिकॉर्ड प्रणाली को आधुनिक बनाने हेतु भूमि राजस्व कानून में संशोधन किया। इस व्यवस्था में रिकॉर्ड में मूल ग्रांटी का नाम बने रहने से बिक्री, ट्रांसफर और बैंक लोन में दिक्कतें आती थीं। 2025 के संशोधन से रिकॉर्ड वर्तमान स्वामित्व के अनुसार अपडेट होंगे और कोडवा भूमि अधिकार भी सुरक्षित रहेंगे।
India launches first open-sea fish farming project in Andaman Sea — January 19, 2026
India launched its first open-sea marine fish farming project in the Andaman Sea under the Blue Economy push. Inaugurated by Dr Jitendra Singh, the pilot uses NIOT-developed cages for finfish and also promotes open-sea seaweed cultivation. Implemented with the Andaman & Nicobar administration, it aims to boost livelihoods and unlock ocean resources.
भारत ने ब्लू इकॉनमी पहल के तहत अंडमान सागर में अपना पहला ओपन-सी मरीन फिश फार्मिंग प्रोजेक्ट शुरू किया। डॉ. जितेंद्र सिंह द्वारा उद्घाटित इस पायलट में NIOT द्वारा विकसित केज का उपयोग किया जाएगा और खुले समुद्र में सीवीड (समुद्री शैवाल) खेती को भी बढ़ावा मिलेगा। अंडमान-निकोबार प्रशासन के साथ लागू यह परियोजना समुद्री संसाधनों के बेहतर उपयोग और मछुआरा समुदाय की आजीविका बढ़ाने का लक्ष्य रखती है।
PM launches ₹830-crore multimodal infra projects in Hooghly, West Bengal — January 19, 2026
The Prime Minister inaugurated and laid foundation stones for projects worth over ₹830 crore at Singur, Hooghly. The Balagarh Extended Port Gate System with IWT terminal and RoB will handle 2.7 MTPA cargo across 900 acres with dedicated jetties. It aims to reduce Kolkata congestion, cut pollution, support MSMEs and agriculture, and create jobs.
प्रधानमंत्री ने हुगली के सिंगुर में ₹830 करोड़ से अधिक की विकास परियोजनाओं का उद्घाटन/शिलान्यास किया। बालागढ़ Extended Port Gate System में IWT टर्मिनल और RoB शामिल हैं, जो 900 एकड़ क्षेत्र में 2.7 MTPA कार्गो संभालेगा और समर्पित जेट्टी उपलब्ध होंगी। इससे कोलकाता की भीड़ घटेगी, प्रदूषण कम होगा, MSME व कृषि को मदद मिलेगी और रोजगार बढ़ेगा।
IIM Rohtak director wins global governance leadership award — January 19, 2026
IIM Rohtak Director Prof Dheeraj Sharma received the Exemplary Governance Leadership Award at the 46th World Management Congress in New Delhi. Selected from 1,400 nominations, he was recognised for institution-building and securing AMBA and BGA accreditations. Under his leadership, IIM Rohtak shifted to a permanent campus and launched integrated management and law programmes.

CSIR skill drive trains 1.9 lakh people — January 19, 2026
CSIR’s Integrated Skill Initiative trained over 1.9 lakh people through 5,200 programmes across 18 sectors, offering practical training, internships and certifications via CSIR labs. Phase III launched in June 2025 has already trained 14,000+ people through 425 programmes.

South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt was named ICC Women’s Player of the Month for December after strong performances vs Ireland. She scored three centuries in a month, including an unbeaten 115 in T20Is and back-to-back ODI hundreds in a series whitewash. It is her second award in three months.

Jharkhand sand mining resumes after High Court lifts stay — January 19, 2026
Jharkhand High Court lifted the stay on sand ghat allocation after the state enforced PESA Rules, 2025. The ban imposed in September 2025 ended after the government informed the court that PESA rules were cabinet-approved. Sand mining can resume while safeguarding tribal rights in Scheduled Areas.
झारखंड हाईकोर्ट ने बालू घाट आवंटन पर लगी रोक हटा दी क्योंकि राज्य ने PESA नियम, 2025 लागू कर दिए। सितंबर 2025 में लगी रोक, कैबिनेट-स्वीकृत PESA नियमों की जानकारी कोर्ट को देने के बाद हटाई गई। इससे अनुसूचित क्षेत्रों में जनजातीय अधिकारों की सुरक्षा के साथ बालू खनन फिर शुरू हो सकेगा।
INS Sagardhwani sails for 5th ‘Sagar Maitri’ mission — January 19, 2026
DRDO-operated oceanographic vessel INS Sagardhwani was flagged off from Kochi for the 5th Sagar Maitri mission. The Navy–DRDO initiative promotes scientific cooperation and capacity-building among Indian Ocean Rim nations under MAHASAGAR. The mission will retrace historic routes and begin collaborative ocean research with eight IOR countries, starting with Maldives.
DRDO द्वारा संचालित समुद्र वैज्ञानिक पोत INS सागरध्वनि को कोच्चि से ‘सागर मैत्री’ मिशन के 5वें संस्करण के लिए रवाना किया गया। यह नौसेना–DRDO पहल MAHASAGAR के तहत हिंद महासागर क्षेत्र के देशों में वैज्ञानिक सहयोग और क्षमता निर्माण को बढ़ावा देती है। मिशन ऐतिहासिक मार्गों को दोहराएगा और आठ IOR देशों के साथ संयुक्त समुद्री शोध शुरू करेगा, जिसकी शुरुआत मालदीव से होगी।
