The Central Government has implemented a new fuel mandate requiring petrol pumps to supply E20 fuel with a minimum octane rating of 95 RON.
E20 fuel is a blend consisting of 20 per cent ethanol and 80 per cent petrol. Ethanol is a type of biofuel that is produced from agricultural crops such as sugarcane, maize, and other grains.
This move is part of India’s broader strategy to promote cleaner and more sustainable fuel alternatives. One of the key advantages of E20 fuel is its higher octane rating, which improves engine performance and efficiency.
While regular petrol in India generally has an octane rating of around 91 to 92 RON, E20 fuel has a minimum rating of 95 RON. A higher octane rating helps in smoother combustion, reduces engine knocking, and enhances overall fuel efficiency.
Additionally, ethanol blending reduces dependence on fossil fuels and helps in lowering carbon emissions, making it an environmentally friendly option.

इसके अलावा, एथेनॉल मिश्रण से जीवाश्म ईंधन पर निर्भरता कम होती है और कार्बन उत्सर्जन घटता है, जिससे यह पर्यावरण के लिए अधिक अनुकूल विकल्प बनता है।
