📘 ENGLISH CONTENT

Recently, small earthquakes shook parts of the Aegean Sea near Turkey and Greece. During this event, mysterious floating lights were observed in the sky, which scientists refer to as “Earthquake Lights”.

Earthquake lights are unusual luminous phenomena that appear in the form of flashes, streaks, glowing balls, or vertical pillars of light. These lights can be seen just before, during, or shortly after an earthquake.

The formation of earthquake lights is linked to tectonic activity. Earthquakes occur when massive tectonic plates move, push, or grind against each other, creating intense stress within the Earth’s crust.

This stress compresses rocks, especially those containing quartz or other specific minerals, leading to the generation of electrical charges within them.

These electric charges travel upward through cracks and geological faults until they reach the Earth’s surface. When these charges interact with air molecules, they ionize them by stripping away electrons, which results in the formation of glowing plasma.

This glowing plasma appears as visible light in the sky, often without any heat or fire, making it a unique natural phenomenon.

Scientists have observed that earthquake lights are more common in regions with straight and vertical faults, such as rift zones, as these structures provide easier pathways for the movement of electrical charges.

Earthquake lights
