Gujarat CM Launches ‘Asha Van’ for Cancer Care
In a significant move to strengthen preventive healthcare, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated ‘Asha Van’, a mobile cancer screening and diagnostic unit, in Gandhinagar on January 8, 2026. The initiative is designed to bring advanced medical diagnostic services directly to the doorsteps of rural, tribal, and underserved communities, supporting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of "Health and Wellness for All."
The mobile unit was donated by Jenburkt Pharmaceuticals Ltd. to the Bhavnagar district branch of the Indian Red Cross Society, which will be responsible for its operation and maintenance. The van is specifically engineered to detect cancer at an early stage, which is crucial for increasing the success rate of treatments and saving lives.
‘Asha Van’ is described as a "hospital on wheels," equipped with cutting-edge medical instrumentation. Its core features include EVA-Pro diagnostics for high-resolution imaging, a full digital mammography unit for breast cancer screening, and integrated teleconsultation facilities that allow patients to consult with specialists remotely. The van is capable of screening for 10 different types of cancer, including lung, breast, cervical, oral, blood, prostate, pancreatic, and liver cancers. By removing barriers like travel distance and high diagnostic costs, the project aims to build a more resilient and health-conscious Gujarat.
