Recently, the Union Minister announced that India’s dedicated Antariksh venture capital fund for the space sector is progressing steadily, with investments in selected startups expected to begin from the first quarter of FY2027.
This fund is a close-ended fund registered with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) as a Category II Alternative Investment Fund (AIF).
The key investor in this fund is the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe), which functions under the Department of Space, Government of India.
The fund is sponsored by SIDBI Venture Capital Limited, which plays a crucial role in supporting emerging businesses and startups.
The primary objective of the fund is to provide much-needed capital to companies in the space sector at various stages of development. It also aims to support scaling of operations and commercialization of new technologies, enabling these companies to contribute to India’s broader space ambitions.
Importantly, the fund will invest exclusively in Indian companies operating in the space sector that have achieved a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of 4 and above, ensuring that investments are made in relatively mature and viable technologies.
