Why in the News?

On April 20, 2026, a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed for the development of India’s first Mega Greenfield Shipyard at Thoothukudi in Tamil Nadu.

The project is considered a major step toward strengthening India’s shipbuilding industry and maritime infrastructure.
