Kami Rita and Lhakpa Sherpa Break Everest Climbing Records
Nepali mountaineers Kami Rita Sherpa and Lhakpa Sherpa created history once again on 17 May 2026 by breaking their own world records for the highest number of ascents of Mount Everest.
Kami Rita Sherpa’s Record
Kami Rita Sherpa, popularly known as the “Everest Man,” successfully climbed Mount Everest for the 32nd time, extending his own world record for the highest number of Everest summits by any individual.
Kami Rita belongs to Thame village in Nepal’s Solukhumbu district and completed his first commercial Everest summit in 1994. Over the years, he has become one of the world’s most experienced high-altitude climbers and guides.
Lhakpa Sherpa’s Record
Lhakpa Sherpa, often called the “Mountain Queen,” completed her 11th successful ascent of Mount Everest. With this achievement, she retained her record as the woman with the highest number of Everest summits in the world.
In 2000, she became the first Nepali woman to successfully summit and descend Mount Everest.
