The invitation was discussed at the 9th meeting of the India‑U.S. Civil Space Joint Working Group (CSJWG), held at ISRO headquarters in Bengaluru on 5–6 August 2026. Opening remarks were made by Dr. V. Narayanan (Chairman, ISRO & Secretary, Department of Space) and H.E. Sergio Gor (U.S. Ambassador to India). The talks were co‑chaired by M. Sankaran (UR Rao Satellite Centre), Dr. Wesley Brooks (U.S. side) and Kathleen Karika (NASA Associate Administrator).

Moon Base Programme & Related Cooperation — English
The Moon Base initiative is part of NASA's broader Artemis architecture, which also includes the Orion spacecraft, the Space Launch System (SLS), the Gateway lunar station and planned crewed missions. During the CSJWG meeting, NASA and ISRO agreed to deepen discussions on sharing scientific data openly. This expanded cooperation links to the TRUST Initiative and the February 2025 Joint Leaders' Statement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Donald Trump.
