NTH Unveils Advanced Shoe Testing Laboratory in Ghaziabad

On 17 May 2026, the National Test House inaugurated a modern Shoe Testing Laboratory in Ghaziabad to strengthen India’s footwear manufacturing ecosystem and quality assurance infrastructure. The initiative is expected to improve product standards, export competitiveness, and industrial efficiency in the footwear sector.

The laboratory operates under the Department of Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Government of India. It has been strategically established at the NTH Northern Region centre in Ghaziabad to support major footwear manufacturing hubs of northern India such as Delhi-NCR, Kanpur, and Agra. This location is expected to significantly reduce transportation and logistics costs for manufacturers.

The primary objective of the laboratory is to conduct scientific and rigorous testing of footwear products according to Indian Standards (IS). The facility will evaluate various parameters including slip resistance, durability, material strength, and chemical safety to ensure product quality and consumer protection.

The laboratory is equipped with advanced and highly specialized testing instruments. Important machines include the Bally Water Penetration Tester, which measures water resistance and penetration in footwear materials, and the Bata Belt Flex Tester, which checks flexibility and durability under repeated movement conditions.
