Operation RAGEPILL: NCB Makes India’s First-Ever Captagon Seizure
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) announced the successful execution of “Operation RAGEPILL” on 16 May 2026, marking India’s first-ever seizure of the psychotropic drug Captagon.
The operation exposed an international narcotics trafficking network that was allegedly attempting to use India as a transit route for smuggling drugs to Gulf countries, especially Saudi Arabia.
Total Drug Seizure
The operation led to the recovery of a total of 227.7 kg of Captagon tablets and powder, with an estimated illegal market value of around ₹182 crore.
Recovery Locations
1. New Delhi Seizure
On 11 May 2026, officials recovered 31.5 kg of Captagon from Neb Sarai in New Delhi. The drugs were hidden inside a commercial chapati-cutting machine to avoid detection.
2. Mundra Port Seizure
On 14 May 2026, another 196.2 kg consignment was intercepted at the Container Facilitation Station (CFS) in Mundra. The shipment had arrived from Syria and was falsely declared as sheep wool.
About Captagon
Captagon is a synthetic psychotropic drug mainly composed of Fenetylline and Amphetamine.
The drug is often referred to internationally as the “Jihadi Drug” because of its alleged misuse in conflict zones and by extremist groups. Under India’s Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, both Fenetylline and Amphetamine are classified as psychotropic substances.
Enforcement Action
The investigation resulted in the arrest of a Syrian national who was allegedly overstaying illegally in India.
The Narcotics Control Bureau also urged citizens to report narcotics-related activities through the MANAS Helpline (1933).
