Pressure | दाब
Pressure is force acting normally per unit area of a surface.
Pressure = Force / Area
The SI unit of pressure is pascal (Pa), equivalent to N/m². Pressure is a scalar quantity.
Atmospheric Pressure |
Atmospheric pressure is measured using a barometer.
A rapid fall in barometric pressure can indicate an approaching storm, while a gradual fall can be associated with deteriorating or rainy weather. A steady rise generally indicates improving or clearer weather.
Pressure in Liquids |
In a liquid at rest, pressure increases with depth. For a liquid of density ρ at depth h, gauge pressure is approximately P = ρgh.
At the same horizontal level in the same connected static liquid, pressure is the same.
Why Atmospheric Pressure Decreases with Altitude |
Atmospheric pressure decreases with altitude. Consequently, water boils at a temperature below 100°C at high altitudes, cooking becomes slower without a pressure cooker, breathing may become difficult because of lower oxygen partial pressure, and sealed objects may expand due to pressure differences.
