What is Ricin?
Ricin is a highly toxic naturally occurring protein found in castor beans, the seeds of the castor plant Ricinus communis. It is not naturally found in cotton seeds.

Castor beans are processed industrially to produce castor oil. Ricin can remain in the residual material generated during this processing. Proper industrial processing prevents ricin from remaining in the finished castor oil.
