Saurabh Vijay officially assumed charge as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) on 18 May 2026. He will now lead the operations and administration of India’s Aadhaar identification system.

The appointment falls under the administrative control of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), which oversees UIDAI and India’s digital governance initiatives.

Saurabh Vijay is a 1998-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer belonging to the Maharashtra cadre. Over the years, he has served in several important positions within the Government of India and has extensive administrative experience in governance and public policy implementation.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is the statutory authority responsible for issuing Aadhaar numbers to Indian residents. Aadhaar is a unique 12-digit identification number used for authentication and delivery of various government services, subsidies, and welfare schemes.
