Important Formulas

Inclination of a line:

0° ≤ θ < 180°

Slope of a non-vertical line:

m = tan θ

Slope using 2 points:

If the points are (x1, y1) and (x2, y2), then

m = (y2 - y1) / (x2 - x1)

Slope of a horizontal line:

m = 0

Slope of a vertical line:

m is not defined

Condition for parallel lines:

We know that:

We know that:

Therefore, θ lies between 0° and 90°.

Hence, θ is acute.

(iii) When m < 0,

(iv) We know that a vertical line is the only line whose slope is not defined.

The inclination of a vertical line is 90°.

mAB = mBC
