Recently, the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology highlighted the Government’s sustained efforts to nurture scientific temper among the youth, with special emphasis on the Yuva Vigyani Karyakram (YUVIKA).
YUVIKA (YUva VIgyani KAryakram) is a learning and awareness programme launched by Indian Space Research Organisation.
The programme is designed to impart basic knowledge of Space Technology, Space Science, and Space Applications to young students, with special preference given to students from rural areas.
The main objective of YUVIKA is to create awareness about emerging trends in science and technology among youngsters, who are the future builders of the nation. It also aims to motivate students to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
In terms of eligibility, students who have completed Class 8 and are currently studying in Class 9 are eligible to apply for the programme.
Every year, three students are selected from each State and Union Territory, covering students from CBSE, ICSE, and state boards.
The selection process is based on academic performance in Class 8 along with extracurricular activities. Students from rural areas are given special weightage during selection. In case of a tie, preference is given to the younger candidate.
YUVIKA is conducted as a two-week residential programme by ISRO. It includes expert lectures, experience sharing by eminent scientists, laboratory and facility visits, interactive sessions with experts, and practical learning along with feedback sessions.

इस कार्यक्रम का उद्देश्य छात्रों को अंतरिक्ष प्रौद्योगिकी, अंतरिक्ष विज्ञान और अंतरिक्ष अनुप्रयोगों के बारे में बुनियादी जानकारी प्रदान करना है, जिसमें ग्रामीण क्षेत्रों के छात्रों को विशेष प्राथमिकता दी जाती है।
YUVIKA का मुख्य उद्देश्य युवाओं में विज्ञान और प्रौद्योगिकी के उभरते रुझानों के प्रति जागरूकता बढ़ाना है। साथ ही, यह छात्रों को STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) क्षेत्र में करियर बनाने के लिए प्रेरित करता है।
पात्रता की बात करें तो जो छात्र कक्षा 8 पास कर चुके हैं और वर्तमान में कक्षा 9 में पढ़ रहे हैं, वे इस कार्यक्रम के लिए आवेदन कर सकते हैं।
हर वर्ष प्रत्येक राज्य और केंद्र शासित प्रदेश से तीन छात्रों का चयन किया जाता है, जिसमें CBSE, ICSE और राज्य बोर्ड के छात्र शामिल होते हैं।
चयन प्रक्रिया कक्षा 8 के शैक्षणिक प्रदर्शन और सह-पाठ्यक्रम गतिविधियों के आधार पर होती है। ग्रामीण क्षेत्र के छात्रों को विशेष वेटेज दिया जाता है। यदि दो छात्रों के अंक समान होते हैं, तो कम उम्र वाले छात्र को प्राथमिकता दी जाती है।
यह कार्यक्रम Indian Space Research Organisation द्वारा आयोजित दो सप्ताह का आवासीय कार्यक्रम है, जिसमें विशेषज्ञों के व्याख्यान, वैज्ञानिकों के अनुभव साझा करना, प्रयोगशाला और सुविधाओं का दौरा, विशेषज्ञों के साथ इंटरैक्टिव सत्र और व्यावहारिक प्रशिक्षण शामिल होता है।
