Banabhatta was the court poet of Harshavardhana, the prominent ruler of the Vardhana or Pushyabhuti dynasty.
Bana was one of the most celebrated Sanskrit prose writers of the seventh century CE.
His most important historical work is Harshacharita, a biographical account centred on Harsha and his family.
