Correct Answer
B. Kuala LumpurB.
Explanation
The correct answer is Option B: Kuala Lumpur.
The first East Asia Summit (EAS) was convened in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 14 December 2005.
The inaugural summit represented the formal beginning of the East Asia Summit process and established the EAS as an important leaders-led forum for strategic dialogue and regional cooperation.
The first EAS was attended by the ten ASEAN member states along with India, China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Australia and New Zealand, making a total of 16 participating countries at that time.
The United States and Russia later joined the East Asia Summit in 2011, increasing the number of participating countries to 18.
ASEAN plays a central role in the EAS framework, and ASEAN Centrality is an important principle associated with the forum.
The summit enables leaders to discuss major political, strategic, security and economic issues affecting the wider Indo-Pacific region.
It also promotes cooperation in several priority areas, including environment and energy, education, finance, global health and pandemic diseases, natural disaster management and ASEAN connectivity.
India has participated in the EAS since its inception and was present at the inaugural summit in 2005.
For competitive examinations, remember the important combination: First East Asia Summit → 14 December 2005 → Kuala Lumpur → Malaysia.
Bangkok is the capital of Thailand, Jakarta is the capital of Indonesia, and Singapore is a separate Southeast Asian city-state; none of these hosted the inaugural EAS.
Therefore, Kuala Lumpur is the correct answer.
