Who discovered Hemiphyllodactylus venkatadri according to the source?
Correct Answer
B. Zoological Survey of IndiaB.
Explanation
The correct answer is Option B: Zoological Survey of India (ZSI).
Hemiphyllodactylus venkatadri is a newly identified slender gecko associated with the Tirumala Hills in the Seshachalam landscape of Andhra Pradesh.
The discovery is associated with researchers from the Zoological Survey of India, an important scientific organisation engaged in the survey, exploration, documentation and study of India's animal diversity.
ZSI functions under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India.
The genus Hemiphyllodactylus includes small-bodied geckos commonly referred to as slender geckos.
The discovery of H. venkatadri is important because it adds to the documented reptilian diversity of the Eastern Ghats and Andhra Pradesh.
Students should distinguish the Zoological Survey of India from the Botanical Survey of India.
ZSI primarily deals with fauna or animal diversity, whereas BSI primarily studies flora or plant diversity.
The Wildlife Institute of India is mainly associated with wildlife research, training and management, while the Forest Survey of India is primarily concerned with the assessment and monitoring of India's forest resources.
Since Hemiphyllodactylus venkatadri is an animal species and the reported discovery was made by ZSI researchers, Option B is correct.
For examinations, remember the association: Hemiphyllodactylus venkatadri → slender gecko → Tirumala Hills
Seshachalam landscape → Andhra Pradesh → Zoological Survey of India.
परीक्षा की दृष्टि से Zoological Survey of India और Botanical Survey of India में अंतर याद रखना चाहिए। Hemiphyllodactylus venkatadri → Slender Gecko → Tirumala Hills/Seshachalam → Andhra Pradesh → Zoological Survey of India.
