Overview (English)
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) issued an Expression of Interest (EoI) on 18 August 2026 via Research Centre Imarat (RCI), Hyderabad. The EoI seeks long-term partnerships with Indian private defence firms to manufacture missiles and guided bombs under a Development-cum-Production Partner (DcPP) arrangement.

What is the DcPP model? (English)
Under the Development-cum-Production Partner model, DRDO retains responsibility for design and development. Selected private firms will handle prototype integration, qualification testing support and scaling up for serial manufacture. This model splits technology development (DRDO) and industrialisation & production (private partner).

Eligibility and selection (English)
Key eligibility and selection points mentioned in the EoI:
- Firms must hold an active defence manufacturing licence and a PESO (Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation) licence.
- Reported financial filters: net worth greater than ₹34 crore and profitability in at least two of the last five years. Some reports also cited a minimum annual turnover of ₹100 crore, though that turnover filter was not uniformly published.
- DRDO intends to select at least two private companies for each weapon project. Selected firms will co-develop prototypes and then compete for bulk production contracts of about 50–100 units.

Industrial context (English)
India's defence manufacturing includes public sector undertakings, ordnance factories and private industry. State-owned Bharat Dynamics Ltd is a major producer of missiles and related systems. The DcPP move aims to bring more private firms into high-end missile production while keeping DRDO in design control.
