UPSC Indian Forest Service Main Examination 2026 Time Table

The Union Public Service Commission has published the time table for the Indian Forest Service (Main) Examination, 2026. The Main Examination is scheduled from 22 November to 29 November 2026. Candidates who have reached the Main stage should now organise their revision according to the official paper-wise programme rather than following a generic study schedule.

Examination period and sessions

The examination programme runs from 22 November to 29 November 2026. The published schedule uses two sessions on applicable examination days: the forenoon session from 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon and the afternoon session from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM. Candidates must check the official timetable for the exact paper allotted to each date and session. The schedule also indicates 24 November as a day without an examination.

Why the official timetable matters

Indian Forest Service Mains contains compulsory and optional papers, and the gap between individual papers directly affects revision planning. Candidates should therefore download the official timetable and mark their own optional subjects. A schedule prepared from memory or from an unofficial summary can create avoidable confusion, especially where different optional subjects are held in different sessions.

Preparation strategy after the timetable

At this stage, candidates should divide preparation into three layers. First, revise the compulsory papers and ensure that answer-writing practice is consistent. Second, prepare optional subjects according to the sequence in which the relevant papers appear in the official programme. Third, reserve the final days for rapid revision of high-value notes, diagrams, scientific names, technical concepts, examples and previous mistakes.

For descriptive papers, knowing the content is not sufficient. Candidates need to present the answer within the available time and space. Practising complete papers under examination conditions helps improve speed, prioritisation and handwriting endurance. Optional subjects should be revised from the syllabus rather than from random topic lists so that less fashionable but examinable areas are not ignored.

Use previous question papers intelligently

UPSC makes previous question papers available through its official website. Candidates can use them to understand the wording of questions, depth expected, recurrence of themes and the balance between conceptual knowledge and application. Previous papers should not be treated as a prediction of the next examination; their best use is to identify the standard and breadth expected by UPSC.

Admit card and examination-day instructions

The timetable and the e-admit card serve different purposes. The timetable tells candidates when papers are scheduled, while the individual e-admit card contains candidate-specific examination information. Candidates should download the e-admit card when made available through the official UPSC channel and carefully read the instructions concerning venue, reporting, identity verification and prohibited items. UPSC has also been communicating examination-related instructions through its official portal, so candidates should check it regularly until the examination.

What candidates should do now

  • Download and save the official Main Examination timetable.
  • Highlight only the optional papers applicable to you.
  • Prepare a date-wise revision plan around the actual sequence of papers.
  • Practise full-length descriptive papers under timed conditions.
  • Keep checking UPSC for the e-admit card and subsequent instructions.
  • Do not depend on social-media screenshots for changes in the programme.
