Which city is most commonly associated as an important capital of Kosala during the Buddha's time?
Correct Answer
A. ShravastiA.
Explanation
Shravasti, called Savatthi in Pali, was an important capital and political centre of Kosala during the period associated with Gautama Buddha and King Prasenajit.
It is also one of the most important places in Buddhist sacred geography because Buddha is traditionally said to have spent many rainy-season retreats there, particularly at Jetavana monastery.
Kosala itself had older centres such as Ayodhya
Saketa, so statements about a single permanent capital across all periods should be made carefully.
In the sixth-fifth century BCE context, however, Shravasti is the standard exam association.
The city was situated in the Gangetic cultural zone and participated in expanding trade and urban networks.
Rajagriha belonged to Magadha, Taxila to Gandhara and Ujjayini to Avanti.
