Explanation

The National Emblem of India is an adaptation of the Lion Capital of Ashoka at Sarnath.
The original capital is associated with an Ashokan pillar and dates to the Mauryan period.
The sculpture has four lions standing back to back, although only three are normally visible from a single frontal view.
Beneath the lions is a circular abacus carrying figures including an elephant, a galloping horse, a bull and a lion, separated by Dharma Chakras.
In the adopted State Emblem, the lion capital is accompanied by the motto 'Satyameva Jayate'.
The original Lion Capital is preserved in the Sarnath Museum near Varanasi.
Sarnath itself is also an extremely important Buddhist site because Gautama Buddha delivered his first sermon there after attaining enlightenment.
For examinations, connect these facts: Ashoka → Mauryan Empire → Lion Capital → Sarnath → State Emblem of India.
The Ashoka Chakra seen on the Indian national flag is also based on the Dharma Chakra associated with Ashokan symbolism.
Therefore, Sarnath is the correct answer.
