Andhra Pradesh Approves Quantum and AI University Campus | आंध्र प्रदेश ने Quantum और AI University Campus को मंजूरी दी

English: The Andhra Pradesh government approved India's first dedicated Quantum and Artificial Intelligence University campus in Amaravati on 27 August 2026. The specialised campus will be developed by the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology, or NIELIT, which operates as a Deemed-to-be University under the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. The project is designed to create a major higher-education, research, innovation and skill-development centre for emerging deep technologies.

हिंदी: Andhra Pradesh government ने 27 अगस्त 2026 को Amaravati में India's first dedicated Quantum and Artificial Intelligence University campus को मंजूरी दी। इस specialised campus को National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology यानी NIELIT विकसित करेगा, जो Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology के अंतर्गत Deemed-to-be University के रूप में कार्य करता है। Project का उद्देश्य emerging deep technologies के लिए higher education, research, innovation और skill development का एक प्रमुख centre विकसित करना है।

What is NIELIT? | NIELIT क्या है?

English: NIELIT stands for National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology. It functions under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, commonly known as MeitY. NIELIT is involved in education, training, certification and capacity building in information technology, electronics and related fields. Its proposed Amaravati campus extends this role into cutting-edge areas such as quantum computing, artificial intelligence, semiconductor technology and VLSI.

हिंदी: NIELIT का पूरा नाम National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology है। यह Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology यानी MeitY के अंतर्गत कार्य करता है। NIELIT information technology, electronics तथा related fields में education, training, certification और capacity building से जुड़ा है। Amaravati campus के माध्यम से इसकी भूमिका quantum computing, artificial intelligence, semiconductor technology और VLSI जैसे advanced areas तक विस्तारित होगी।

English: The proposed institution plans to offer undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, diploma and executive programmes. Key areas include Quantum Computing, Artificial Intelligence, Very Large Scale Integration and Semiconductor Fabrication. Such multidisciplinary programmes are increasingly important because advanced computing systems depend upon close interaction between software, algorithms, chip design, electronics and fabrication technology.

What is Quantum Computing? | Quantum Computing क्या है?

English: Quantum computing uses principles of quantum mechanics to process information. Unlike conventional computers that primarily use bits represented as 0 or 1, quantum computers use quantum bits or qubits. Qubits can exploit phenomena such as superposition and entanglement. Quantum computing is being researched for applications including cryptography, optimisation, materials science, drug discovery and complex simulations.

हिंदी: Quantum computing information processing के लिए quantum mechanics के principles का उपयोग करता है। Conventional computers में information मुख्य रूप से bits यानी 0 और 1 के रूप में represent होती है, जबकि quantum computers quantum bits या qubits का उपयोग करते हैं। Qubits superposition और entanglement जैसी quantum phenomena का उपयोग कर सकते हैं। Quantum computing का research cryptography, optimisation, materials science, drug discovery और complex simulations जैसे क्षेत्रों में किया जा रहा है।

What is VLSI? | VLSI क्या है?

English: VLSI stands for Very Large Scale Integration. It refers to designing integrated circuits containing very large numbers of electronic components, especially transistors, on a single chip. VLSI is fundamental to modern processors, memory chips, smartphones, computers, communication systems and embedded electronics. Growth in VLSI education is therefore closely linked to India's ambitions in semiconductor design and manufacturing.

हिंदी: VLSI का पूरा नाम Very Large Scale Integration है। इसमें एक single integrated circuit या chip पर बहुत बड़ी संख्या में electronic components, विशेष रूप से transistors, integrate किए जाते हैं। VLSI modern processors, memory chips, smartphones, computers, communication systems और embedded electronics के लिए fundamental technology है। इसलिए VLSI education का expansion India's semiconductor ambitions से सीधे जुड़ा हुआ है।

Semiconductor Fabrication | Semiconductor Fabrication क्या है?

English: Semiconductor fabrication is the highly sophisticated process of manufacturing integrated circuits, generally on silicon wafers. It involves multiple stages such as wafer preparation, photolithography, deposition, etching, doping, testing and packaging. Semiconductor manufacturing requires extremely clean environments, advanced machinery, skilled manpower and large capital investment.

हिंदी: Semiconductor fabrication integrated circuits के manufacturing की अत्यंत sophisticated process है, जो सामान्यतः silicon wafers पर की जाती है। इसमें wafer preparation, photolithography, deposition, etching, doping, testing और packaging जैसे कई stages शामिल होते हैं। Semiconductor manufacturing के लिए ultra-clean environments, advanced machinery, skilled manpower और बहुत अधिक capital investment की आवश्यकता होती है।

Project Cost and Infrastructure | Project Cost और Infrastructure

English: The project has an estimated cost of ₹730.70 crore over five years and is planned to receive 100% Grant-in-Aid from MeitY. The campus proposal includes a 1.25 lakh square-foot Quantum Research, Innovation and Incubation Block. It is also planned with solar-powered Net Zero features and residential facilities with a capacity of around 500 beds.

हिंदी: Project की estimated cost पाँच वर्षों में ₹730.70 crore है और इसे MeitY से 100% Grant-in-Aid मिलने की योजना है। Campus proposal में लगभग 1.25 lakh square-foot Quantum Research, Innovation and Incubation Block शामिल है। इसके साथ solar-powered Net Zero features तथा लगभग 500-bed residential facilities की भी योजना बनाई गई है।

Location and Initial Classes | स्थान और प्रारंभिक कक्षाएँ

English: The permanent campus is planned in Amaravati. Academic programmes are scheduled to begin from September 2026 at Acharya Nagarjuna University in Guntur as an interim arrangement. The initiative followed an MoU signed between NIELIT and the Andhra Pradesh government on 20 February 2026 during the India AI Impact Summit.

हिंदी: Permanent campus Amaravati में विकसित किया जाएगा। Interim arrangement के रूप में academic programmes September 2026 से Acharya Nagarjuna University, Guntur में शुरू किए जाने की योजना है। इस project की groundwork 20 February 2026 को India AI Impact Summit के दौरान NIELIT और Andhra Pradesh government के बीच signed MoU से जुड़ी है।

Projected Student Intake | अनुमानित Student Intake

English: Over five years, the project targets approximately 8,250 learners. This includes around 1,650 students in degree programmes and 6,600 learners through skilling and certification courses. This combination of formal degrees and short-term skill programmes reflects the growing need for both advanced researchers and industry-ready technical manpower.

हिंदी: पाँच वर्षों में project का target लगभग 8,250 learners को train करना है। इनमें लगभग 1,650 students degree programmes में तथा 6,600 learners skilling और certification courses में शामिल होंगे। Formal degrees और short-term skill programmes का यह combination advanced researchers तथा industry-ready technical manpower दोनों की आवश्यकता को पूरा करने का प्रयास करता है।
