English: IMD Scientific Assistant eligibility clarification
The India Meteorological Department published a consolidated FAQ on 18 September 2026 concerning Scientific Assistant recruitment through the Staff Selection Commission Junior Engineer Examination 2026. It explains the SSC notice dated 2 September and the essential-qualification addendum dated 10 September, listed on IMD's recruitment page on 14 September. These documents should be read together. As of 26 September, the application deadline reported for this cycle has passed; this article explains eligibility to existing applicants and does not invite a fresh application.
Accepted degree routes
The first route is a bachelor's degree in Science with Physics as one of the subjects from a recognised institution or university. The second route is a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Applications, Electronics, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electronics Telecommunication Engineering, Instrumentation, Information Technology, Telecommunication Engineering or Communication Engineering. Candidates using the second route must also have passed Class XII from a recognised board with Physics and Mathematics among their subjects. The addendum gives the Scientific Assistant upper age as 30 years; read the main SSC notice for cut-off date and applicable relaxations.
Common mistakes explained in the FAQ
A similar syllabus or related degree title does not automatically establish eligibility. Merely studying Physics or Engineering Physics within a B.E. or B.Tech degree does not substitute for the specifically prescribed Science bachelor's degree with Physics route. For the second route, the FAQ does not provide a separate exemption from the Class XII Physics and Mathematics requirement for lateral-entry degree holders after a diploma. Choosing a particular part or subject in the computer-based examination does not determine eligibility: the actual educational qualification must independently satisfy the notice and addendum. IMD also states that colour blindness is a disqualification for appointment to this post.
What candidates should do
Compare the exact degree name on the certificate with the official list, check the Class XII marksheet where the second route applies, and keep original documents ready for scrutiny. If a degree has an allied or specialised name, do not infer acceptance from overlapping coursework. Use the SSC notice and IMD FAQ for the authoritative rule. Examine any later corrigendum or individual document-verification communication before acting. A submitted application by itself is not proof that IMD has accepted the candidate's eligibility.

भारत मौसम विज्ञान विभाग ने 18 सितंबर 2026 को कर्मचारी चयन आयोग की कनिष्ठ अभियंता परीक्षा 2026 के माध्यम से वैज्ञानिक सहायक भर्ती के संबंध में समेकित प्रश्नोत्तर जारी किया। इसमें 2 सितंबर की मूल परीक्षा सूचना तथा 10 सितंबर के आवश्यक शैक्षणिक योग्यता संबंधी परिशिष्ट को स्पष्ट किया गया है। विभाग के भर्ती पृष्ठ पर परिशिष्ट 14 सितंबर को सूचीबद्ध है। इन दस्तावेजों को साथ पढ़ना आवश्यक है। 26 सितंबर तक इस भर्ती की बताई गई आवेदन अवधि समाप्त हो चुकी है; यह लेख पहले आवेदन कर चुके अभ्यर्थियों की पात्रता समझाने के लिए है।
मान्य शैक्षणिक योग्यताएँ
पहला मार्ग मान्यता प्राप्त संस्था या विश्वविद्यालय से विज्ञान में स्नातक उपाधि है, जिसमें भौतिकी एक विषय रही हो। दूसरे मार्ग में कंप्यूटर विज्ञान, कंप्यूटर अनुप्रयोग, इलेक्ट्रॉनिक्स, इलेक्ट्रॉनिक्स एवं संचार अभियांत्रिकी, इलेक्ट्रॉनिक्स दूरसंचार अभियांत्रिकी, यंत्र विन्यास, सूचना प्रौद्योगिकी, दूरसंचार अभियांत्रिकी अथवा संचार अभियांत्रिकी में स्नातक उपाधि शामिल है। दूसरे मार्ग के अभ्यर्थियों ने मान्यता प्राप्त बोर्ड से कक्षा 12 की परीक्षा भौतिकी और गणित विषयों के साथ उत्तीर्ण की होनी चाहिए। परिशिष्ट में वैज्ञानिक सहायक के लिए अधिकतम आयु 30 वर्ष दी गई है। आयु की गणना की तिथि और लागू छूट के लिए मूल एसएससी सूचना पढ़ें।
आम भ्रमों पर विभाग का स्पष्टीकरण
मिलता-जुलता पाठ्यक्रम अथवा संबंधित नाम वाली उपाधि अपने आप पात्रता नहीं देती। बी.ई. या बी.टेक. पाठ्यक्रम में केवल भौतिकी या अभियांत्रिकी भौतिकी पढ़ लेने से विज्ञान स्नातक के साथ भौतिकी वाली निर्धारित योग्यता पूरी नहीं मानी जाती। दूसरे मार्ग में डिप्लोमा के बाद पार्श्व प्रवेश से उपाधि पाने वालों के लिए कक्षा 12 में भौतिकी और गणित की शर्त से अलग छूट नहीं दी गई है। कंप्यूटर आधारित परीक्षा में किसी विषय या भाग का चुनाव पात्रता निर्धारित नहीं करता; वास्तविक शैक्षणिक योग्यता को सूचना और परिशिष्ट की शर्तें स्वतंत्र रूप से पूरी करनी होंगी। विभाग ने यह भी स्पष्ट किया है कि वर्णांधता इस पद पर नियुक्ति के लिए अयोग्यता है।
अभ्यर्थी क्या जाँचें
अपने प्रमाणपत्र पर लिखे उपाधि के ठीक नाम का आधिकारिक सूची से मिलान करें। यदि पात्रता दूसरे मार्ग से है, तो कक्षा 12 की अंकतालिका में भौतिकी और गणित की पुष्टि करें। विशेष अथवा संबंधित नाम वाली उपाधि को केवल विषयों की समानता के आधार पर मान्य न मानें। दस्तावेज जाँच के लिए मूल अभिलेख व्यवस्थित रखें और आगे जारी होने वाले शुद्धिपत्र अथवा व्यक्तिगत सूचना भी देखें। आवेदन जमा हो जाना विभाग द्वारा पात्रता स्वीकार किए जाने का प्रमाण नहीं है।
