Latest Update: Staff Selection Commission (SSC) is accepting applications for the Junior Engineer (Civil, Mechanical & Electrical) Examination, 2026. The notice dated 2 September 2026 reports approximately 1,748 tentative vacancies, including Junior Engineer posts across Central Government organisations and Scientific Assistant posts in the India Meteorological Department under the current examination notice/addendum. Vacancies and Departments
The current recruitment reports 1,748 tentative vacancies in departments/organisations including CPWD, MES, Border Roads Organisation and other participating Central Government offices, with Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and notified technical disciplines. Candidates must use SSC's post/department table and the September addendum for the latest vacancy and eligibility position.
Educational Qualification
Candidates generally need a Degree or Diploma in the relevant Engineering discipline for the selected JE post. Some departments/posts can require additional experience or a specific degree/diploma route. Scientific Assistant posts have their separately prescribed technical qualification. A Civil qualification, for example, should not be assumed to qualify a candidate for Mechanical or Electrical posts.
Age Limit
The upper age is generally 30 or 32 years depending on the department/post, calculated as on 1 August 2026. Category-wise relaxation is available to eligible SC/ST, OBC, PwBD, Ex-Servicemen and other candidates under Government rules. Candidates should check their selected department because one age ceiling does not apply to every JE post.
Application Fee
The application fee is ₹100 for candidates required to pay it. Women, SC, ST, PwBD and eligible Ex-Servicemen candidates are exempt under the notification. SSC's correction charges, where applicable, are separate from the normal examination fee.
Pay Scale
The notified posts are generally Group B, Pay Level-6: ₹35,400–₹1,12,400 under the 7th CPC pay matrix, subject to the exact post/department. Actual in-hand salary varies with allowances, city, deductions and service conditions.
Selection Process
Selection consists of Paper-I Computer Based Examination and Paper-II, followed by document verification by the user department and applicable medical/eligibility formalities. For BRO JE posts, only male candidates are eligible under the current requirements and prescribed physical/medical standards apply. Candidates selecting BRO should read those conditions carefully before giving preferences.
