Raulane Festival attracted nationwide attention in November 2025 after striking photographs and videos of the traditional Kinnauri celebration became widely circulated on social media. The viral material brought attention to a little-known Himalayan cultural tradition.
नवंबर 2025 में पारंपरिक किन्नौरी उत्सव की आकर्षक तस्वीरें और वीडियो सामाजिक माध्यमों पर व्यापक रूप से प्रसारित होने के बाद रौलाने उत्सव राष्ट्रीय स्तर पर चर्चा में आया। इससे हिमालय की अपेक्षाकृत कम ज्ञात सांस्कृतिक परंपरा की ओर लोगों का ध्यान गया।
Where is it Celebrated? | यह कहाँ मनाया जाता है?
The festival is associated particularly with Kalpa and neighbouring communities in Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh. It is connected with the transition from the harsh Himalayan winter towards spring and the agricultural season.
यह उत्सव विशेष रूप से हिमाचल प्रदेश के किन्नौर जिले के कल्पा और आसपास के समुदायों से संबंधित है। इसका संबंध कठोर हिमालयी शीत ऋतु के समाप्त होने और वसंत तथा कृषि ऋतु के आगमन से है।
Saunis | सौनियाँ
Local tradition speaks of celestial or protective beings known as Saunis. According to community belief, these beings protect and guide villagers during the difficult winter months. Raulane rituals symbolically honour and bid farewell to them as the season changes.
स्थानीय परंपरा में सौनियों नामक दिव्य अथवा संरक्षक शक्तियों का उल्लेख मिलता है। सामुदायिक मान्यता के अनुसार ये कठोर शीत ऋतु के दौरान ग्रामीणों की रक्षा और मार्गदर्शन करती हैं। ऋतु परिवर्तन के समय रौलाने के अनुष्ठानों के माध्यम से प्रतीकात्मक रूप से उनका सम्मान और विदाई की जाती है।
Raula and Raulane | रौला और रौलाने
Two male participants traditionally represent a symbolic couple known as Raula and Raulane. They wear elaborate woollen clothing, jewellery and face coverings or masks and take part in ritual performances associated with local religious tradition.
परंपरागत रूप से दो पुरुष प्रतिभागी रौला और रौलाने नामक प्रतीकात्मक युगल का प्रतिनिधित्व करते हैं। वे विस्तृत ऊनी वस्त्र, आभूषण और चेहरे को ढकने वाले मुखावरण पहनते हैं तथा स्थानीय धार्मिक परंपरा से जुड़े अनुष्ठानों में भाग लेते हैं।
Nagin Narayan Temple | नागिन नारायण मंदिर
The Nagin Narayan Temple at Kalpa is associated with the festival's ritual landscape. Traditional performances include slow ceremonial dancing in which the community participates.
कल्पा का नागिन नारायण मंदिर इस उत्सव की धार्मिक परंपरा से जुड़ा है। पारंपरिक आयोजनों में धीमा अनुष्ठानिक नृत्य शामिल होता है, जिसमें स्थानीय समुदाय भाग लेता है।
Is the Festival Really 5,000 Years Old? | क्या यह वास्तव में 5,000 वर्ष पुराना है?
Popular accounts frequently describe Raulane as approximately 5,000 years old. However, this age is principally based on local oral tradition rather than a continuous written historical record. For examination purposes, it is safer to describe it as an ancient or centuries-old Kinnauri tradition whose local tradition claims great antiquity.
लोकप्रिय विवरणों में रौलाने को लगभग 5,000 वर्ष पुराना बताया जाता है। किंतु यह आयु मुख्यतः स्थानीय मौखिक परंपरा पर आधारित है, न कि लगातार उपलब्ध लिखित ऐतिहासिक अभिलेख पर। परीक्षा की दृष्टि से इसे प्राचीन अथवा सदियों पुरानी किन्नौरी परंपरा कहना अधिक उपयुक्त है, जिसकी स्थानीय मान्यता इसे अत्यंत प्राचीन मानती है।
