In July 2025, another volcanic eruption occurred on Iceland's Reykjanes Peninsula. It was reported as the ninth eruption in the region since December 2023. The event highlighted the continuing volcanic activity along an active tectonic plate boundary.
जुलाई 2025 में आइसलैंड के रेक्यानेस प्रायद्वीप पर एक और ज्वालामुखीय उद्गार हुआ। इसे दिसंबर 2023 के बाद इस क्षेत्र का नौवाँ उद्गार बताया गया। इस घटना ने सक्रिय विवर्तनिक प्लेट सीमा के निकट जारी ज्वालामुखीय गतिविधि को फिर चर्चा में ला दिया।

The Reykjanes Peninsula lies in southwestern Iceland, beside the North Atlantic Ocean. It contains lava fields, volcanic fissures, geothermal areas and relatively young volcanic landscapes.

The Mid-Atlantic Ridge passes through Iceland and emerges above sea level in the Reykjanes region. The ridge marks a divergent boundary between the North American Plate and the Eurasian Plate. As these plates move apart, magma can rise through fractures in the crust.

What is a Divergent Plate Boundary? | अपसारी प्लेट सीमा क्या है?
A divergent plate boundary is a region where two tectonic plates move away from each other. Such movement can create fractures, earthquakes and volcanic activity. New crust forms at many divergent boundaries as magma cools and solidifies.
अपसारी प्लेट सीमा वह क्षेत्र है जहाँ दो विवर्तनिक प्लेटें एक-दूसरे से दूर जाती हैं। इस गति से दरारें, भूकंप और ज्वालामुखीय गतिविधियाँ उत्पन्न हो सकती हैं। अनेक अपसारी सीमाओं पर मैग्मा के ठंडा होकर ठोस बनने से नई भूपर्पटी का निर्माण होता है।
Volcanic Activity Since 2021 | वर्ष 2021 से ज्वालामुखीय गतिविधि
After a long period without eruptions on the peninsula, volcanic activity resumed in 2021. A further series of eruptions began in December 2023, affecting areas near Grindavík and the Svartsengi geothermal system. The July 2025 eruption formed part of this renewed activity.
प्रायद्वीप पर लंबे समय तक उद्गार न होने के बाद वर्ष 2021 में ज्वालामुखीय गतिविधि फिर शुरू हुई। दिसंबर 2023 से उद्गारों की एक और शृंखला आरंभ हुई, जिसका प्रभाव ग्रिंडाविक और स्वार्टसेंगी भू-तापीय क्षेत्र के निकट पड़ा। जुलाई 2025 का उद्गार इसी पुनः सक्रिय हुई प्रक्रिया का हिस्सा था।
Types of Volcanic Features | ज्वालामुखीय स्थलरूप
The peninsula is known for fissure eruptions, lava flows, volcanic cones and geothermal features. During a fissure eruption, lava emerges through an elongated crack rather than only through a single central crater.
यह प्रायद्वीप दरारी उद्गार, लावा प्रवाह, ज्वालामुखीय शंकु और भू-तापीय स्थलरूपों के लिए प्रसिद्ध है। दरारी उद्गार में लावा केवल एक केंद्रीय क्रेटर से नहीं, बल्कि लंबी दरार के विभिन्न भागों से बाहर निकलता है।

Gunnuhver is a geothermal area on the Reykjanes Peninsula, known for steam vents, mud pools and hot ground. Such features reflect the presence of heat beneath the Earth's surface.
गुन्नुह्वेर रेक्यानेस प्रायद्वीप का भू-तापीय क्षेत्र है। यह भाप निकलने वाले छिद्रों, कीचड़ के गर्म कुंडों और गर्म भूमि के लिए जाना जाता है। ये विशेषताएँ पृथ्वी की सतह के नीचे मौजूद ऊष्मा को दर्शाती हैं।

The Reykjanes UNESCO Global Geopark highlights the geological significance of the region, including its volcanic and geothermal features. A UNESCO Global Geopark is different from a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
रेक्यानेस यूनेस्को वैश्विक भू-पार्क इस क्षेत्र की भूवैज्ञानिक महत्ता को प्रदर्शित करता है। इसमें ज्वालामुखीय और भू-तापीय विशेषताएँ शामिल हैं। यूनेस्को वैश्विक भू-पार्क और यूनेस्को विश्व धरोहर स्थल अलग-अलग मान्यताएँ हैं।
