What is the Siliguri Corridor? | सिलीगुड़ी गलियारा क्या है?
The Siliguri Corridor is a narrow land passage in northern West Bengal connecting the northeastern states of India with the rest of the country. It is popularly called the Chicken's Neck because of its narrow geographical shape.
सिलीगुड़ी गलियारा उत्तरी पश्चिम बंगाल में स्थित संकरा स्थल मार्ग है, जो भारत के पूर्वोत्तर राज्यों को देश के शेष भाग से जोड़ता है। इसकी संकरी भौगोलिक आकृति के कारण इसे चिकन्स नेक कहा जाता है।
Location and Width | स्थिति और चौड़ाई
The corridor lies around Siliguri and adjoining areas of northern West Bengal. Its narrowest commonly cited width is approximately 20–22 kilometres. Different sources use different geographical boundaries when describing its overall length and area.
यह गलियारा सिलीगुड़ी और उत्तरी पश्चिम बंगाल के आसपास के क्षेत्रों में स्थित है। इसके सबसे संकरे भाग की सामान्यतः बताई जाने वाली चौड़ाई लगभग 20–22 किलोमीटर है। इसकी कुल लंबाई और क्षेत्रफल बताते समय विभिन्न स्रोत अलग-अलग भौगोलिक सीमाएँ अपनाते हैं।
Neighbouring Countries | पड़ोसी देश
The corridor lies near Nepal to the west, Bhutan to the north and Bangladesh to the south. China does not directly border the narrow Siliguri passage; China's Chumbi Valley lies farther north near the India-Bhutan-Tibet region.
इस गलियारे के पश्चिम में नेपाल, उत्तर में भूटान और दक्षिण में बांग्लादेश स्थित हैं। चीन की सीमा सिलीगुड़ी के संकरे स्थल मार्ग से सीधे नहीं लगती। चीन की चुम्बी घाटी इसके उत्तर में भारत-भूटान-तिब्बत क्षेत्र के निकट स्थित है।
Why is it Strategically Important? | इसका सामरिक महत्व क्यों है?
The corridor carries major road, rail and communication connections between northeastern India and the rest of the country. Disruption could affect civilian transport, commerce, essential supplies and military logistics.
यह गलियारा पूर्वोत्तर भारत और देश के शेष भाग के बीच प्रमुख सड़क, रेल तथा संचार संपर्क उपलब्ध कराता है। इसमें बाधा आने से नागरिक परिवहन, व्यापार, आवश्यक वस्तुओं की आपूर्ति और सैन्य रसद प्रभावित हो सकती है।
Chumbi Valley | चुम्बी घाटी
The Chumbi Valley is a narrow valley in the Tibet Autonomous Region of China, extending southward between Sikkim and Bhutan. Its geographical position is frequently discussed in analyses of eastern Himalayan security.
चुम्बी घाटी चीन के तिब्बत स्वायत्त क्षेत्र में स्थित संकरी घाटी है, जो सिक्किम और भूटान के बीच दक्षिण की ओर विस्तृत है। पूर्वी हिमालय की सुरक्षा से संबंधित विश्लेषणों में इसकी भौगोलिक स्थिति का अक्सर उल्लेख होता है।
Connectivity | संपर्क व्यवस्था
National highways, railway lines and other infrastructure pass through northern West Bengal. Alternative routes through Bangladesh and other connectivity projects can provide additional transport options, but they do not change the corridor's geographical significance.
उत्तरी पश्चिम बंगाल से राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग, रेलमार्ग और अन्य अवसंरचना गुजरती हैं। बांग्लादेश के माध्यम से वैकल्पिक संपर्क तथा अन्य परिवहन परियोजनाएँ अतिरिक्त विकल्प उपलब्ध करा सकती हैं, लेकिन इससे गलियारे का मूल भौगोलिक महत्व समाप्त नहीं होता।
