Apprenticeship is Training
This engagement is under the Apprentices Act, 1961. It provides trade training and prescribed stipend; completion does not automatically guarantee permanent Railway employment.
Vacancies & Qualification
The 4,471 slots are distributed across Southern Railway Divisions, Workshops, Units and trades. For many Ex-ITI trades, candidates require Class 10/Matriculation with prescribed marks plus relevant NCVT/SCVT ITI. Fresher categories have separate educational requirements, which can involve Class 10 or Class 12 with prescribed subjects depending on trade.
Age & Fee
Minimum age is generally 15 years; upper age and relaxation depend on apprentice category and Notification 01/2026. Application fee is generally reported as ₹100, with exemption for eligible SC/ST/PwBD and women candidates. Verify exact conditions before payment.
Selection
Selection is generally merit-based using prescribed educational/ITI marks. There is normally no conventional competitive written examination. Shortlisted candidates undergo Document Verification and prescribed medical fitness.
Stipend
Selected apprentices receive the stipend prescribed under the Apprentices Act/Rules and applicable Railway instructions. It is not the salary of a permanent Railway employee.
