Which site of the Indus Valley Civilization is famous for the Great Bath?
Correct Answer
B. Mohenjo-daroB.
Explanation
The Great Bath was discovered at Mohenjo-daro, one of the most important cities of the Indus Valley Civilization.
Mohenjo-daro is situated in present-day Sindh province of Pakistan.
The Great Bath is a large rectangular tank made mainly of baked bricks.
Its floor and sides were carefully constructed and made water-resistant, showing the high level of engineering skill achieved by the Harappans.
Flights of steps provided access to the tank, while surrounding rooms and corridors formed part of the complex.
Water was probably supplied from a nearby well, and an efficient outlet allowed used water to be drained away.
Archaeologists generally believe that the structure was probably used for ritual or ceremonial bathing, although its exact function remains uncertain because the Harappan script has not been conclusively deciphered.
The Great Bath also illustrates the importance attached to water management and cleanliness in Harappan cities.
Important site associations for examinations are: Mohenjo-daro—Great Bath and bronze Dancing Girl; Lothal—dockyard-like basin and bead industry; Kalibangan—ploughed field and fire-altars; Dholavira—reservoirs and sophisticated water-management system.
