Correct Answer
B. Bodh GayaB.
Explanation
Gautama Buddha attained enlightenment at Bodh Gaya in present-day Bihar.
According to Buddhist tradition, Siddhartha Gautama sat in meditation under a pipal tree, later known as the Bodhi Tree, and resolved not to rise until he had discovered the truth about suffering and liberation.
After attaining enlightenment, he became known as the Buddha, meaning the Enlightened One.
Bodh Gaya subsequently became one of the four most important Buddhist pilgrimage centres.
The other three are Lumbini, where Buddha was born; Sarnath, where he delivered his first sermon; and Kushinagar, where he attained Mahaparinirvana.
The Mahabodhi Temple at Bodh Gaya is one of the most important surviving Buddhist monuments.
For competitive examinations, remember the four-place sequence: Lumbini—birth, Bodh Gaya—enlightenment, Sarnath—first sermon, and Kushinagar—Mahaparinirvana.
