Explanation

The Flag Code of India came into effect in 2002.
It brings together instructions and conventions concerning the display and use of the National Flag.
The constitutional connection arises from Article 51A(a), which makes respect for the National Flag a Fundamental Duty of every citizen along with respect for the Constitution, its ideals and institutions and the National Anthem.
The National Flag represents the sovereignty and collective identity of the Republic, so rules concerning its proper display and dignity have public importance.
The Flag Code and the constitutional duty should nevertheless be conceptually distinguished: Article 51A(a) establishes the citizen's constitutional duty of respect, while the Flag Code provides a more detailed framework concerning the use and display of the flag.
For examinations, 2002 is the key year associated with the Flag Code of India.
