Explanation
According to the source, the three members of the Cabinet Mission were Stafford Cripps, Pethick-Lawrence and A.
V.
Alexander.
The Mission came to India in March 1946.
These names are important for objective examinations because questions frequently ask either the complete composition of the Mission or identify a person who was or was not its member.
The source connects the Cabinet Mission with the constitution-making process in India.
It states that the Mission gave recognition to the constitution-making body and laid down the arrangement for the Constituent Assembly.
The proposed Assembly had a total membership of 389.
The source states that 296 seats were allotted to British India, while 93 representatives were to come from princely states.
Four representatives were associated with the Chief Commissioners' provinces.
The broad representation formula was one representative for every ten lakh population.
Seats in British Indian provinces were distributed among Muslim, Sikh and General communities in proportion to their population.
The representatives of princely states were to be selected by the rulers of those states.
Therefore, candidates should remember both the year and the three-member composition together: Cabinet Mission, 1946—Stafford Cripps, Pethick-Lawrence and A.
V.
Alexander.
