B. Cabinet MissionB.
Explanation
According to the source, the Cabinet Mission of 1946 was the mission that gave recognition to a constitution-making body.
This makes it a crucial stage in the development of the Constituent Assembly.
The source should be read carefully alongside its earlier statement regarding the Cripps Mission.
According to the book, the Cripps proposals of 1942 had clearly stated that the Indian Constitution would be framed by an elected Constituent Assembly.
The Cabinet Mission of 1946 subsequently laid down the actual arrangement for the constitution-making body described in the source.
The Cabinet Mission consisted of Stafford Cripps, Pethick-Lawrence and A.
V.
Alexander.
It proposed a Constituent Assembly with a total strength of 389.
Of these, 296 seats were allotted to British India and 93 to princely states.
Representation was broadly based on one member for every ten lakh population.
Seats allotted to British Indian provinces were distributed among Muslim, Sikh and General communities according to population.
Representatives of princely states were to be selected by the rulers of those states.
Therefore, in the wording used by this source, the mission associated with recognition of the constitution-making body is the Cabinet Mission of 1946.
