The President is elected in accordance with the system of proportional representation by means of the single transferable vote, and voting is by secret ballot.
The election is therefore different from the ordinary first-past-the-post method used in many legislative elections.
Electors indicate preferences among candidates rather than merely casting an undifferentiated vote.
The value of votes is also structured to maintain constitutional balance in the Electoral College.
Article 55 deals with the manner of election, while Article 54 identifies the Electoral College.
