Article 59 deals with the conditions of the President's office.
It contains important provisions concerning membership of Parliament or a State Legislature, holding an office of profit, official residence, emoluments, allowances and privileges.
If a member of either House of Parliament or a House of a State Legislature is elected President, that legislative seat is treated as vacated when the person enters upon the presidential office.
The President is also entitled to official residence without payment of rent and to such emoluments, allowances and privileges as are determined under the constitutional framework.
These conditions are intended to preserve the dignity and independence of the office of the constitutional Head of State.
अनुच्छेद 59 भारत के राष्ट्रपति के पद की शर्तों से संबंधित है। इसमें संसद या राज्य विधानमंडल की सदस्यता, लाभ का पद धारण करने, आधिकारिक निवास, परिलब्धियों, भत्तों और विशेषाधिकारों से संबंधित महत्वपूर्ण प्रावधान हैं। यदि संसद के किसी सदन या राज्य विधानमंडल के किसी सदन का सदस्य राष्ट्रपति निर्वाचित हो जाता है, तो राष्ट्रपति पद ग्रहण करने पर उसकी उस सदन की सदस्यता रिक्त मानी जाती है। राष्ट्रपति को बिना किराया दिए आधिकारिक निवास तथा संवैधानिक व्यवस्था के अंतर्गत निर्धारित परिलब्धियां, भत्ते और विशेषाधिकार प्राप्त होते हैं। इन प्रावधानों का उद्देश्य राष्ट्रपति पद की गरिमा और स्वतंत्रता बनाए रखना है।
