What is meant by the suspensive veto of the President?
Correct Answer
B. Returning a Bill to Parliament for reconsiderationB.
Explanation
Suspensive veto operates when the President returns a Bill to Parliament for reconsideration.
If Parliament subsequently passes the Bill again, with or without amendments, and presents it again, the President is required to give assent.
The veto is therefore called 'suspensive' because it can delay the enactment and require Parliament to reconsider the measure, but it does not provide an unlimited power to defeat a Bill that Parliament passes again in accordance with the constitutional procedure.
This power must also be distinguished from pocket veto and absolute veto.
