Who may dissolve the Lok Sabha before the completion of its normal term?
Correct Answer
C. President of India, ordinarily acting on constitutional adviceC.
Explanation
The President of India has the constitutional authority to dissolve the Lok Sabha.
Under the parliamentary system, this power is ordinarily exercised in accordance with the constitutional advice of the Council of Ministers headed by the Prime Minister.
Dissolution brings the life of the existing Lok Sabha to an end.
It is different from adjournment, which interrupts a sitting, and prorogation, which ends a session.
A Lok Sabha may therefore be dissolved before completing its normal five-year term.
This power does not extend to dissolving the Rajya Sabha.
