Why is CYBER KUSHTI 2026 in News?
The first competitive round of CYBER KUSHTI 2026 is being conducted online on 15 September 2026. The national cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence hackathon was launched by the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology, or NIELIT, under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
Unlike many conventional cybersecurity competitions that reward participants mainly for detecting vulnerabilities quickly, CYBER KUSHTI has been designed to test analytical judgment. Participants must examine security findings, distinguish genuine risks from misleading findings and explain the reasoning behind their decisions.
What Happens on 15 September?
The first round is called 'The Akhada'. It is an online qualifying round scheduled for 15 September 2026.
From this round, 50 teams are scheduled to advance to the second stage of the competition.
Three Stages of CYBER KUSHTI
The competition follows a three-stage structure inspired by traditional Indian wrestling terminology.
- Round 1 - The Akhada: Online on 15 September 2026. Fifty teams advance.
- Round 2 - The Dangal: Online on 24 September 2026. Ten finalist teams will be selected.
- Final Round - The Kesari: In-person round on 9 October 2026 at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi.
What Makes This Hackathon Different?
The competition focuses on judgment rather than merely the speed of vulnerability detection. Participants receive deliberately incomplete cybersecurity assessment material containing AI-generated findings, code, logs and documentation.
Teams must identify which findings represent genuine security concerns, which may be false positives and which issues deserve priority.
Human Judgment versus Artificial Intelligence
Artificial Intelligence can analyse enormous quantities of cybersecurity data, but automated systems can generate false positives or fail to understand the full operational context of a threat.
CYBER KUSHTI therefore examines how human experts evaluate AI-generated security analysis instead of simply accepting machine output.
What is a False Positive?
In cybersecurity, a false positive occurs when a security system incorrectly identifies legitimate activity as malicious or incorrectly reports a vulnerability that is not actually exploitable in the stated context.
Too many false positives can overwhelm cybersecurity teams and distract them from genuine threats.
What is NIELIT?

यह प्रतियोगिता अलग क्यों है?
इस प्रतियोगिता में केवल vulnerabilities को तेजी से खोजना पर्याप्त नहीं है। प्रतिभागियों को जानबूझकर अधूरी रखी गई cybersecurity assessment सामग्री दी जाती है जिसमें AI-generated findings, computer code, system logs और documentation शामिल हो सकते हैं।

False Positive क्या है?
Cybersecurity में false positive वह स्थिति है जब कोई security system सामान्य और वैध activity को गलत तरीके से malicious activity मान लेता है अथवा ऐसी vulnerability की सूचना देता है जो वास्तविक परिस्थिति में मौजूद नहीं है।
बहुत अधिक false positives security teams का समय नष्ट कर सकते हैं और वास्तविक threats से ध्यान हटा सकते हैं।
