Polymers / पॉलिमर

A polymer is a high molecular weight compound formed by combination of a large number of low molecular weight molecules called monomers.

Polymer high molecular weight compound है जो large number of low molecular weight molecules के combination से बनता है। इन small molecules को Monomers कहते हैं।

Polymerisation / बहुलकीकरण

The process through which monomers combine to form a polymer is called polymerisation.

Monomers के combine होकर Polymer बनाने की process को Polymerisation कहते हैं।

The source identifies polymers as important to four major industries: plastics, fibres, paints and varnishes.

Nylon-6,6

Monomers: Adipic Acid + Hexamethylene Diamine

Uses mentioned in source:

  • Brush bristles
  • Synthetic fibres
  • Parachutes
  • Substitute for metal in bearings

Nylon-6 or Perlon

Monomer: Caprolactam

Uses: Fibres, plastic tyre cords and ropes.

Terylene / टेरीलीन

Monomers: Ethylene Glycol + Terephthalic Acid

The source mentions its use in wash-and-wear fabrics, tyre cords, safety belts and tents.

Kevlar / केवलर

Monomers in source: Terephthalic Acid + 1,4-Diaminobenzene

Important Use: Bulletproof vests.

Kevlar का use bulletproof vests बनाने में किया जाता है। यह competitive exams में frequently matched fact है।

Lexan or Polycarbonate / लेक्सान या पॉलीकार्बोनेट

Monomers in source: Diethyl Carbonate + Bisphenol-A

Uses: Bulletproof windows and safety helmets.

Polyurethanes / पॉलीयूरेथेन

Monomers in source: Toluene Diisocyanate + Ethylene Glycol

Uses: Washable and long-lasting mattresses and cushions.
