Article 43A deals with the participation of workers in the management of industries.
It directs the State to take steps, by suitable legislation or in any other way, to secure worker participation in the management of undertakings, establishments or other organisations engaged in industry.
The provision was inserted by the 42nd Constitutional Amendment Act, 1976.
Its philosophy is that industrial democracy should involve more than the traditional employer-employee relationship.
Workers contribute directly to production and may therefore be given an appropriate participatory role in matters affecting industrial organisation and management.
Such participation can potentially improve communication, industrial relations and a sense of shared responsibility.
Article 43A does not itself establish one mandatory management model for every enterprise.
