Introduction to Computer / कंप्यूटर का परिचय
A computer is an electronic device designed to accept data and instructions, process them according to a predefined set of instructions, store information when required, and produce meaningful output. In competitive examinations, questions related to the basic functions, characteristics and components of computers are extremely common. The fundamental working cycle of a computer can be understood as Input → Processing → Output, with storage playing an important supporting role.
कंप्यूटर एक इलेक्ट्रॉनिक उपकरण है जो डेटा और निर्देशों को स्वीकार करता है, निर्धारित निर्देशों के अनुसार उनका प्रसंस्करण करता है, आवश्यकता पड़ने पर सूचना को संग्रहित करता है और उपयोगी परिणाम प्रदान करता है। प्रतियोगी परीक्षाओं में कंप्यूटर के मूल कार्य, विशेषताएँ और घटकों से संबंधित प्रश्न बहुत महत्वपूर्ण होते हैं। कंप्यूटर की मूल कार्यप्रणाली को Input → Processing → Output के रूप में समझा जा सकता है, जिसमें Storage अर्थात संग्रहण भी महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाता है।
Major Functions of a Computer / कंप्यूटर के प्रमुख कार्य
Input: Data and instructions are supplied through input devices such as keyboard, mouse and scanner. Processing: The CPU processes the supplied information. Output: Processed information is presented through devices such as monitors and printers. Storage: Information can be retained for future use.
इनपुट: कीबोर्ड, माउस और स्कैनर जैसे उपकरणों द्वारा डेटा तथा निर्देश दिए जाते हैं। प्रोसेसिंग: CPU दिए गए डेटा को संसाधित करता है। आउटपुट: संसाधित जानकारी मॉनिटर या प्रिंटर जैसे उपकरणों के माध्यम से प्राप्त होती है। स्टोरेज: जानकारी को भविष्य के उपयोग के लिए सुरक्षित रखा जा सकता है।
Characteristics / विशेषताएँ
Computers are known for speed, accuracy, storage capacity, automation, consistency and versatility. They can perform a large number of calculations rapidly. However, a computer does not independently possess human intelligence or judgment; it operates according to instructions and programs supplied to it.
कंप्यूटर की प्रमुख विशेषताओं में गति, शुद्धता, संग्रहण क्षमता, स्वचालन, निरंतरता और बहुउपयोगिता शामिल हैं। कंप्यूटर बहुत कम समय में बड़ी संख्या में गणनाएँ कर सकता है। लेकिन कंप्यूटर स्वयं मनुष्य की तरह बुद्धि या निर्णय क्षमता नहीं रखता। वह दिए गए निर्देशों और प्रोग्रामों के अनुसार कार्य करता है।
Data and Information / डेटा और सूचना
Raw facts and figures supplied to a computer are generally called data. After processing, data becomes meaningful information. For example, individual marks of students are data, while a calculated result or merit list represents useful information.
कंप्यूटर को दिए जाने वाले कच्चे तथ्यों और आँकड़ों को सामान्यतः डेटा कहा जाता है। डेटा को संसाधित करने के बाद प्राप्त अर्थपूर्ण परिणाम सूचना कहलाता है। उदाहरण के लिए छात्रों के अलग-अलग अंक डेटा हैं, जबकि उनसे तैयार किया गया परिणाम या मेरिट सूची उपयोगी सूचना है।

The Central Processing Unit is considered the main processing component of a computer. A computer system broadly consists of hardware and software. Hardware represents physical components that can be touched, whereas software consists of programs and instructions. Memory and storage help retain data and instructions. These elementary concepts form the foundation for studying CPU, memory, operating systems, software, networking and modern information technology.
