Generations of Computers / कंप्यूटर की पीढ़ियाँ

The development of electronic computers is commonly classified into generations according to the major technology used in their construction. For competitive examinations, students should particularly remember the sequence Vacuum Tubes → Transistors → Integrated Circuits → Microprocessors and the association of later computing development with advanced processing and artificial intelligence.

इलेक्ट्रॉनिक कंप्यूटरों के विकास को सामान्यतः उनमें प्रयुक्त प्रमुख तकनीक के आधार पर विभिन्न generations में बाँटा जाता है। प्रतियोगी परीक्षाओं के लिए विद्यार्थियों को विशेष रूप से Vacuum Tubes → Transistors → Integrated Circuits → Microprocessors का क्रम याद रखना चाहिए। बाद के विकास को advanced processing तथा artificial intelligence जैसी तकनीकों से जोड़ा जाता है।

First Generation / प्रथम पीढ़ी

First-generation computers used vacuum tubes as their primary electronic technology. These machines were very large, consumed considerable power and generated substantial heat. Machine language was important during this period. Compared with later computers, these systems were expensive and less convenient to operate.

प्रथम पीढ़ी के कंप्यूटरों में मुख्य इलेक्ट्रॉनिक तकनीक के रूप में vacuum tubes का उपयोग किया जाता था। ये कंप्यूटर आकार में बहुत बड़े थे, अधिक बिजली की खपत करते थे और बहुत अधिक गर्मी उत्पन्न करते थे। इस दौर में machine language का विशेष महत्व था।

Second Generation / द्वितीय पीढ़ी

Transistors replaced vacuum tubes in second-generation computers. Transistors were smaller, more reliable and more energy-efficient than vacuum tubes. This change helped computers become comparatively smaller and more efficient.

द्वितीय पीढ़ी में vacuum tubes के स्थान पर transistors का उपयोग होने लगा। Transistor आकार में छोटा, अधिक विश्वसनीय और vacuum tube की तुलना में अधिक ऊर्जा-कुशल था। इससे कंप्यूटर अपेक्षाकृत छोटे और बेहतर बने।

Third Generation / तृतीय पीढ़ी

The third generation is associated with Integrated Circuits, commonly abbreviated as ICs. An integrated circuit combines multiple electronic components on a small chip, helping improve speed, reliability and efficiency while reducing size.

तृतीय पीढ़ी का संबंध Integrated Circuits अर्थात ICs से है। Integrated Circuit में अनेक electronic components को एक छोटे chip पर संयोजित किया जाता है। इससे कंप्यूटर की गति और विश्वसनीयता बढ़ी तथा आकार कम हुआ।

Fourth Generation / चतुर्थ पीढ़ी

The fourth generation is associated with microprocessor technology. A microprocessor integrates the processing functions of the CPU onto a chip. The growth of microprocessors contributed significantly to the development and widespread adoption of personal computers.

चतुर्थ पीढ़ी का संबंध microprocessor technology से है। Microprocessor CPU की processing functions को एक chip पर समाहित करता है। Microprocessor के विकास ने personal computers को व्यापक रूप से लोकप्रिय बनाने में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई।

Fifth Generation / पाँचवीं पीढ़ी

Fifth-generation computing is generally discussed in connection with artificial intelligence and advanced computer technologies. The objective is to develop systems capable of performing increasingly intelligent tasks using technologies such as AI and related computational techniques.

पाँचवीं पीढ़ी की computing को सामान्यतः Artificial Intelligence और उन्नत computer technologies से जोड़ा जाता है। इसका उद्देश्य ऐसे systems विकसित करना है जो AI तथा संबंधित computational techniques की सहायता से अधिक बुद्धिमत्तापूर्ण कार्य कर सकें।
